Housing
Rattie Space Rule: Each rat must have at least 2 cubic feet of space.

Cages:
There are many different types of cages that can be used for rats. Some common ones are:
1)
Martin's Cages
2) Bird cages
3) Hamster cages
Cages allows your rats proper ventilation, but may be colder during cold months. I highly reccomend getting a pvc or powed coated cage when possible. This makes it easier on your rattie's feet, and does help prevent rusting.

Aquariums:
Aquariums are nice and warm during cold months, but may get pretty hot in the hot months. I tend to not like using aquariums because they are heavy and harder to clean. The minumum space of an aquarium housing one rat is 20 gallons.

Other options:
Another housing alternative I like to use is a large hard plastic storage container with a wire top. I buy the wire at a hardware store, cut appropriate size peices out of it, and cover the sharp edges with duct tape.
