How to get Traffic
- Traffic Flare
Ok, I try not to endorce sites, but Traffic Swarm can get you instant traffic.
Try it, and if it does not work... I WILL give you traffic!
- Content
The single best way to get traffic to your web
site is to have a really great web site. Offer
things that people really want to see, know,
learn, play, buy, or download. It's that simple.
If you offer not much on your site, you may lose
all your visitors as soon as they see your site.
- Meta Tags
Use the two common meta tags on your web
site, keyword and description. Learn more at: http://www.promotion101.com/metatags.shtml
Search Engines &
Directories
The best way to get traffic is from
search engines. By submitting your site to the
main search engines, you enable people to find
your site, not just stumble across it. The first
four you should work on are: AltaVista,
Dmoz, Hotbot
and Google
Make sure you get listed in Dmoz and Google, as
most other search engines add to their search
engine with Dmoz. Yahoo is now mostly Google, so
instead of paying to get listed in Yahoo, get
listed well in Google.
Always submit your main page by hand to make sure
it is listed correctly, and use an automated
submittion for the rest.

Reciprocal Links
The more people linking to your site the better.
With a good site design, Reciprocal Links can be
placed so that not many of your visitors are lost
though them, but many are gained. Text
Swap is great as they exchange links though
javascript with other websites in a ratio of1:1.
Search engines can some times rank a page on the
amount of pages linking to your site, so links
are very importaint.
If you are wondering how many links are to your
site, go to Google.Then,
type link:http://www.yourdomain.com
(where http://www.yourdomain.com is replaced with
your URL).
Newsletters (and Ezines)
Newsletters can get you a lot of exposures. You
can write free articles and ask a newsletter to
publish it. Additionally, you can pay for ads in
newsletters. Do not publish your add in
newsletters that can bug and are hard to
unsuscribe to, as your add will be seen as a
pain.
Usenet / Bulletin Boards
When posting and commenting in a board or
newsgroup, leave your website name and URL at the
bottom of your messages. Do not spam just to get
your URL in the board more, if unsure ask the
moderator first, as this can be heavily
penalized.
Banners
Banner exchanges are very popular, but most get a
very bad click rate. Place the Banner in a space
that does not obstruct your site. Try 2 banner
exchanges at a time and keep the best one. Keep
trying new banner exchanges.
Targeted banner placements do best. Whether
trading or buying, you will often find that you
want your banner on a related page.
Web Rings
Web rings seem to be most effective for small
sites or web ring owners. I use them here and
there but they really depend on what sites are on
either side of you in the ring. I recommend
making a web ring page, with a collection of web
rings, and links to your main pages. I have set
one up Here.
As you see, I do not link to the page of Web
Rings from my main site as to keep my traffic on
my page. This way, you can join as many web rings
as you like and it will not get it the way of
your site. (You can also make the same type of
page with banner exchanges). If you wish to join
a web ring, I recomend This
One.
Size and Doorway pages
The larger your site is, the more chance
there is that people will find what they want on
your site. It is because of this that search
engines can rank websites on their size. To make
your website look bigger use doorway pages. To
have 100 pages made for your, Click Here.
Redesign your site
Redesign your web site and eliminate
frames to better come up on search engines. Also,
don't bury your web site content three or four
levels deep from your home page. Search engines
often only go down one level when they spider
your web site.
Email Signature
When you send e-mail, always use an
e-mail signature with a link back to your web
site. And consider using a snappy one-liner on
your signature, like: "the best web hosting
in the Northeast" or "First in
E-Commerce."
Awards
Submit your web site to as many award
places and sites of the day as you possibly can
find. There's plenty at Yahoo.
Collect Email Address
On your web site, ask your site visitors
for their name and e-mail address. Send
theme-mail and get them to respond to your offer
and / or return to your web site.
Guest book
Create a guest book and ask people to
sign it. E-mail them back later when you've
updated your web site.
Post to peoples guestbooks wherever you see
them and enter your URL to link back to your site
Tracking Users
Sign up with a good counter. This will tell you
lots about your visitors. Try This
One.
Newsletter
Publish an e-mail newsletter ore-mail
update and include links back to your site
