Dana 60 front for my 3/4tonYJwebpage
I started with 2 different axles, one is just the housing from a 77 Ford, it had the UN-desirable
30-spline side gears in the diff., It's standard rotation (not a Hi-Pinion like most Ford 60's), BUT it
has a drivers side diff. thats a must have for me and some Huge C-Knuckles. the Second is from
a
74 dodge, it's a from a dually with external (Bolt On) hubs.  I wanted these because i'm running
Military Hummer Wheels and i already have some 35-spline drive flanges)  i'll be using all
the parts except the housing/gears and axle shafts.....

UPDATED 22 July 07: Axles been removed for use in my '52 F-3 project "Tator".
2nd Page has install and updates.
Below: a couple pics showing
the difference between standard
60 knuckles and the ones i'm
using, i've also seen these on
open knuckle 70's and some
older dodge dana 60's
Below:
these are some standard 30-
spline external drive flanges,
i sent them to: Knoll Racing
in LA, CA.  @ 323-255-3639
he broached them to fit my
35-spline 1.5" shafts.
pictures so all, excellent work.
below: this is how the FORD housing look when i got it........
below and left: this is how the dodge axle looked when i got it,
and yes thats snow with some frost on it......
below: the Ford housing with the "C" knuckles, shock mounts and spring pearch cut off...
and the weld ground away from the "C" , i ended up cutting both the "C"s off with the 2" piece
of tubing still inside.  it's looking pretty narrow.............
:(  BUT, it's actually gonna end up very wide..  :)
below:  C-knuckle welded back on
using a ARC welder "DC-" and 8018 rod.
below: this is the "C" with
the 2" section of tube i cut
off with it, now removed.
:)
pictures with the "C" knuckles back on                        Below:  another test fit and width check, i going for 8 degrees
notice the "C" knuckle installing tools, 2 BFH's            of caster with  pinion in-line with the driveshaft, and use the
                                                                                      same
Tie-Rod & Hydraulic Assist from my old Dana 44.
got to 2nd page of buildup :)

Above: gotta have a shot
compairing a standard 30-
spline stub with the
1½"
35-spline
outer i'm using.
right and below: i took a cast
10 degree shim and ground it
into a 12 degree, i don't really
like this but with the "C"s
rotated and the pinion up, there
wasn't enough casting in the
diff. housing to remove to make
a good sping perch......
i also did some grinding on the
diff. housing to get the U-bolts
to fit good, i think the cast U-bolt
plate will help keep it all tight.
the diff. and shim are both cast
steel, thinking about welding.
Also the hydraulic steering
and homemade tierod can be seen.
this is the steering arm i got from
OffRoad Unlimited, $99 it uses
a standard chevy tierod end, has the
the 10 degree angle and came with
the tapered spacers and grease fitting..
shock mounts: made from3/8" x 2" flat stock.
