Upgrading 3/4tonYJ from 1/2" to 9/16" wheel studs (and getting rid of those *#@%ing left hand thread ones that i've had on the left rear) |

Pictured Left: 2 1/2" long 9/16" thread new stud (with 2 different lug nuts, they have a different tapper, one of my 16" wheels is alittle "Wallowed Out" i think the shallower tapper might work out. Pictured Middle: factory Ford 1965 stud from my Dana 44 front. they are still in good condition but i need to run 1/2" wheel spacers for my 15 x 10 wheels to clear my larger tie rods. Pictured Right: factory Dodge 1971 Left hand thread stud and worn lug nut. from the "Wollowed" wheel. |
This project was done for 3 reasons (well 4) 1- after re-doing the steering and going to larger tie rod ends my 15 x 10 Chrome wagon wheels will not fit. they contact the tie rods, to fix this i decided to use 1/2 thick wheel spacers and longer studs are needed. 2- up at Paragon, PA. i had a wheel come loose, (actually i came loose on the last section of pavement before the water tower and the entrance, broke down before even getting started) so it wallowed out the wheel holes just alittle, so i think that larger lug nuts with a shallower tapper will keep me from buying a new wheel. 3- to get rid of the Left hand thread studs that came factory on the left rear on my Dana 60. (and 4- longer studs and bigger lugs nut are bigger and better). |
