Today was our walking, walking, walking day. Our main goal was Central Park, only 14 blocks away. For reference, 20 blocks is only one mile, going uptown and downtown. Crosstown, all bets are off (ie, 20 blocks is more than one mile). We stopped at Roxy's for breakfast. April had a yummy cheese and cherry danish and I had a strange ham & american cheese croissant with LOTS of fried potatoes. We made our way to Rockefeller Center and then up Fifth Avenue.
We took a few pictures of the architecture and contined on. We stopped at St. Patrick's Cathedral and lit a candle, and took a few more pictures along the way. Lucky for me, this is April's version of 'shopping'.
We made it to Central Park and ambled there for most of the day. We stopped at the remote-control
sailboat lake, Alice in Wonderland and Belvedere Castle. April even had a hot dog! We walked all the way up to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, another 13 or so blocks, and then back down to Central Park South.
As we made our way back to the hotel, we thought, hey, another 11 blocks south is the Empire State Building, so let's just keep going!
Up to the observatory we went, after a short stint in line with several obnoxious teenagers behind us. We took lots of pictures of the city, then went down to look for something to eat. This is about 5:30 pm mind you, and lo and behold, one restaurant is already closed, one won't make us a sandwich because they are closing in 25 minutes, so we finally settled for the pizza place and had a meatball sandwich. ISN'T THIS THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS!?!
Back to the hotel to rest our weary legs...
