New York City, September 2002
Sunday, September 15, The Met

This was our first day of rain (expected thunderstorms, but fortunately they did not appear). We took the subway uptown, stopped at a deli for a breakfast snack, then on to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. We made the decision to spend about 4 hours there, foregoing other museums as they were billed basically as being a nice complement to stuff that was at the Met. And 4 hours we did spend, with one stop at the cafeteria for a frappaccino and a fruit cup. Most of our time was spent with the romans, greeks, egyptians and islams. We made a few minutes for modern art and Washington Crossing the Delaware (of course!!).

Back down to midtown, a change of clothes, and a short walk (9 blocks) back uptown to Studio 54 for Cabaret, with Molly Ringwald as Sally Bowles and Hal Linden as a jewish shopkeeper. We had dinner there (definitely not what was billed on their website), and one martini/cosmopolitan each. Our table mates were a mother/daughter pair, where apparently the daughter wants to make it on Broadway (someday). Definitely the best show I had seen so far.

If you have seen the movie version with Liza Minelli and Joel Gray, it is NOT THE SAME. The broadway version wins hands-down, in my humble opinion. On the way back, we made a stop at Roxy's for some strawberry cheesecake and white chocolate cheesecake that was really a mousse (???). Mmm Mmm Mmm.
