New York City, September 2002
Monday, September 16, Little Italy

Today was our last full day, and after a breakfast at Starbucks, back downtown we went. We took the subway to Union Square, which is at the upper edge of Greenwich Village. We walked through Soho (SOuth of HOuston street), Noho (NOrth of HOuston street), Little Italy and Chinatown. We also walked by Washington Square, which apparently has street entertainment on occasion, but not today. We took a break at a Little Italy corner playground, where it decided once again to rain on us. We stopped for a late lunch in Little Italy, amongst the Feast of San Gennaro. I thought of having street food, but (wisely?) decided against it. This day was fairly uneventful. Back to the subway where we passed a Michael Jackson wanna-be. Uptown to the hotel, and a little rest. We started watching some weird movie with Owen Wilson, Mercedes Ruehl, and Janine Garafolo. A change of clothes and off we were to Caroline's Comedy Club on 49th and Broadway, a short walk away.

Much to my chagrine, there was only about 30 customers (again, THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS?!?), so plenty of people were picked on by the comedians. Participants were several youngsters from Ireland, two couples from England and two couples from Las Vegas. The rest were locals or pretty quiet. Well, except for the three that came in over an hour late, and had a lot to contribute to the show. They were SMRT.

We got back to the hotel pretty early. April went to sleep, so I got to watch some of the Monday Night Football game. And other stuff, too.
