The Umbrella club started out in 1984 to keep a group of friends from Birmingham University in touch with each other. Many of us lived in Birmingham and kept in touch with the Wayfarers so that by the end of the 1980s we had a membership of the last 10 years of Wayfarers. It works simply by just issuing a news letter telling people a campsite and date to meet on or picking on a person who will organise a cottage if you want to contact them and join in. This simple technique has kept us going for 15 years. |

Time moves on and it is difficult to run trips and events of interest to people just leaving University and people in their 30's who are producing and looking after the next generation of Wayfarers. |

However we have new members for the 1990's and certainly campsite trips during the summer of 2000 have been a great sucess with 20 years of ex wayfarers joining up but also enjoying their own thing. |
