Would they make good parents? Why not?
On an opportune occasion, when a pair spawned in my 55gallon tank, I decided to try my luck by scooping the eggs in the pit and place them in another bare bottom spawning tank already loaded with newly hatched fries. To my amazement, while the female continue to watch over their brood, the male took the initiative, stood guard steadfastly and fanned the eggs vigorously!
2 weeks later, I took another gamble by placing this entire batch into a larger spawning tank, filled with 4-weeks old fries under the vigilance of their protective parents. The parents went on to baby-sit other fishes' offspring!
