There are many different stories of the origin of the Jack-O-Lantern. The most popular is that people as early as 1600 A.D. used them to ward off the devil and evil spirits. Sadly, certain fanatical fundamentalist organizations will tell you that Jack-O-Lanterns are used to summon the devil and evil spirits. That's why those fanatics will spend the holiday locked in their basements praying for their souls. My question is…why can't they stay down there all year round? (In my old home town of Whitefish Bay, they celebrate the holiday with a huge Jack-O-Lantern display in a small park across from the town library).

The only fans that showed up were my dog, Ernie (now deceased), myself and this Jack-O-Lantern I found. That, of course was the last Zangz's Vault of Geekdom Fan Appreciation Convention to be held.
Some people go all out to decorate the front of their house during Halloween season, as this East Side home owner did. The set up included an interactive Dragon that would talk to people passing by, a Jack’O’Lantern that would shoot fire from its head up to 6 feet in the air, a spider that would fly out of a window over spectators and rats that would spit water at people as well as other freakish things floating about……
Nothin’says Halloween quite like the dead rising and crawling up from the underworld to devour and feast upon the brains and flesh of the masses. Ahhh…I love Autumn!
