Wrestling Observer Newsletter  May 3rd, 2002
It is being said that the damage to Scotty Too Hotty's neck is more severe than either Steve Austin, Chris Benoit or Rhyno ever had and many seem to think that it will cause him to retire at some point.

Fans at a weekend UWC show up in Akron, OH, were treated to an unexpected outburst from Brian "Grandmaster Sexay" Lawler...
Sexay -- who had been tardy to some promotional appearances during the day leading up to the show, but was eventually cordial while interacting with fans -- was booked to be pinned by Danny Doring in the three way main event match for the UWC Title (that way, champion "Pumper" could claim that he lost his title without being pinned, setting up future matches). Instead, partway through the match, Sexay attacked the referee, and got on a house mic to announce that he didn't want the belt and that the two "jabronies" in the ring could fight for it.  He then walked out of the match. At first blush, it almost sounded to me like a plausible way for Sexay to be booked into a "shoot style" angle that would allow him to keep his credibility as a former WWF superstar, while still granting the "rub" to Doring and Pumper.  But UWC announcer Keith Young e-mailed me about the show, and added that the drama extended backstage, where Sexay returned to get his things from the lockerroom, only to get roughed up, so it could be a real case of bona fide unprofesionalism.  [Sexay claimed a "dislocated elbow" from the scuffle.]
WEBMISTRESS NOTE:
I live here in Ohio where this took  place and have heard alot about this. Apparently Brian was supposed to win the title. The people at UWC kept on picking on Brian: pulling his pants down and pulling jokes on him, then he ended up getting his sumglasses broke and lost a tooth or something due to the ref's negligence. From various sources who attened this event, Brian behaved with a professional attitude and left.

Scotty Too Hotty's neck surgery went well and he is doing well. He will probably remain in the hospital until Saturday and then stay in San Antonio for a few more days and see Dr. Lloyd Youngblood again before he returns home. Recovery time is approximately one year.

On another note Scotty was a call in guess on BYTE THIS! Click
HERE to listen to what he had to say concerning his surgery, his daughter, Taylor, and Disney. You must have Windows Media to be able to see this. He did mention that he would be out for approx. 10-12 months, that his surgery was exactly like Chris Benoit's, and that he misses wrestling already. I'll have more of the dialogue up as soon as I can get it done.

Scotty 2 Hotty returns to see Dr. Youngblood on June 11 and hopes to be able to get out of his hard collar and begin using a soft one at his next appointment.
