There's No Place Like Home:

Like 'Dorothy said in the Wizard of, "There's No Place Like Home."

After Mother fractured her hip and was placed in Skilled Nursing for rehabilitation, there were questions regarding future placement, Home Care versus Long Term Care. Without hesitancy, believing Mother's place was at home with family, I chose Home Care. I knew it would be an awesome responsibility, but having faith this is where my Mother should be, and wanted to be, I trusted God and the Dept. of Elder Affairs to direct me. By not holding the Durable Power of Attorney, yet being my Mother's caregiver, the majority ruled and Mother or I had no say so, therefore, Mother has been in LTC for over four (4) years now. If anyone has any questions concerning my experience with LTC feel free to write me personally.

I would highly suggest that all who are faced with this crucial decision to visit a web site originated for disabled persons. There philosophy is such that if you are faced with this decision, and need subsidy for care, you should have a decision where you wish to receive care, at Home vs. LTC. They have made great strides in moving forward with legislation to make this a reality. There are waivers available in most state, but presently many people are unaware of this. For further information please contact any of the ADAPT members. I didn't know who to contact, so I sent my message to each state contact representative listed on their web site. I would highly suggest for you do the same to learn what is available for assisting or caring for a loved one. Your questions will be answered, ADAPT is a great organization. It is a small but well structure organization, and very powerful. The ADAPT URL is www.ADAPT.org .

Best of luck and may God be with you.
