1. What does the name mean?

There are few answers to this question, it all depends on how deep you want to look into it. On the surface it can be just three words linked together. Or, one possiblity for the name is that it refers to railroad spikes. But, according to Trent himself, (this is from a magazine) The name really does not stand for anything. It was just a name that stood his so called "2 week coolness test", and it could be abreviated easily.

2. Who is Maise? He is mentioned in "broken" and in the back of "the downward spiral".

Maise is (was) Trent's golden reteiver. He was in the studio when Trent was recording 'broken', and his bark is included at a slowed down speed if you listen real closely. Many vistors to my page, told me that Maise was killed when he jumped off a balcony to his death. Trent was on tour with Bowie in August 95' when this happened, and canceled the show for the night because of this.

Again, according to Trent, this warning was put there so that you hear the full sound that is NIN. On certain musical devises, such as ones with only one speaker, this applies. The sound of many instruments can barely be heard at all.

3. What does 'not for use with mono devises' mean?

For more info go here. Yes, he does. One is titled the 'Broken' movie. Because it was never officially released, few NIN fans have it. It was labled as smutt and never got published. However, someone had to have come across it because ther are people who have it. However, I do not have it yet. But I have read a few reviews, and they all recommed it. Broken has different versions of "gave up" and "wish" than 'closure' does. The movie also contains lots of images of a man being tortured, and other assorted goodies. So if you come across it, get it.
The other is Closure. (I have this one.) The first is live footage from concerts, and the second one contains almost all NIN's released music videos. (except for 'burn'.) The vidoes also have NIN music as the backround music in them.

4. Does NIN have any videos out?

Nothing is the label that is listed on all of Trent's releases since 'Broken'. He created this label to be able to produce and release anything that he wants. His older label, TVT, restricted much of his ability and prevented him from fully using his potential. Trent formed 'Nothing' in 1992 and has more than 8 bands under the label.

5. What is "Nothing"?

6. What did TVT do to Trent?

Back in the eighties TVT decided that it didn't like the new sound that Trent was trying to produce. They wouldn't let him say certain words, or make references to many things. Because of this Trent went underground and recorded Broken under a different band name and hid all of his work from TVT. This way they couldn't claim it under their label. The only way Trent could produce his new music was to form his own label, and that is how "nothing" came about.

7. Where was Trent listed as an "addition cock"?

On the Revolting Cocks release Beers, Steers, and Queers.

8. What band formed their name after a comment that Trent made on how the main member remixed a nin song?

That would be "garbage".....after trent told butch vig his "last" remix was just that.

9. What is richard patricks brother known for?

He was the t1000 in terminator 2

David Bowie, crystal japan, scary monsters (secret track)

10. Who originally wrote 'a warm place', what is the name of that song, and where can it be found?

These are a condensed questions from a Holland Radio Interview

1. Down in it, off of Pretty Hate Machine, what was the song about?

Down In It was the first song written, and big rip off of Dig it by skinny puppy, It was written about what he experianced from his early life up till now. It is kinda about realizing that what was brought up in was not neccasarily what there really was.

2. What was the insperation for PHM, and why use computers?

These were the first songs he had written, and he used computers for sounds. Trent tried for an honest sound, only taking ideas from personal experiances, relationships, religions, what has happened. NIN was not political band, it only told people about himself.

3. How did the falling out with TVT happen?

Trent saw bad side of the music indy, which is only about selling music, not art. Trent wrote PHM for own integrity. TVT was like, you can't do this , say this, and they tried to decided things for him

4. What's Next for NIN

The next NIN album might not be coming out.(You can tell that this is old) The lawsuit with TVT will be in court shortly.

5. New Material (broken)

Broken was written from fear in the mid 90'. Trent was feeling great from what he had accmplished, but had nothing to say. Touring changed him. His older songs no longer applied to him like they used to. A harder album, honest to himself, not writing for the fans. Look at what comes from it, don't assume

6. You use computers alot, how do you tour with them?

Trent wrote Pretty Hate Machine himself in the begining to end of 89'. Trent wanted people to see what else is behind the music, not just a tape deck and himself. Trent found other like-minded musicians. But he still wanted the sounds to sound like they came from a computer, but with human help. Everything live was done with tapes.
After 6 months NIN was touring with Jesus and Mary Chain, Peter Murphy and i the summer of 90'NIN gained the support of Meat Beat Manifesto. This led to an upward curve of success, but live acts got harder, and hate fueled.

Other Info

NIN will be playing with Soundgarden and Rev. Horton Heed for a festival at Molsen Park, Sat. August 6th ticket $21.50 The Downward Spiral was recoded at the Manson murder house. Trent is calling from Miami Beach.

1. Should people find him in the industrial/pop rock genre?

No, Trent thinks that people need to catagorize everything, that is why he is stuck there. Trent tries to write a good song, structurally and harmonically. But when he tries to make it interesting, he makes the song to hard, and people don't like it. Trent believes that when you listen to a song for the first time, and you don't like, kepp listening to it. You'll relaixze that there is more to it than you first though.
Those kinds of albums influenced him. He wanted to make albums that not everyone would like. People don't have the attention span they used to. Any good music must be listened to many times to get it all, to understand. People who do that is the audiance Trent is aiming for

In studio interview

Recorded in Toronto Canada, with a Molsen Park show tomorrow.
It has been almost three years since last time Trent was there. First there during the first lolapoloza, back on August 7th.

1. So what about this new film

Trent has seen the new film Natural Born Killers many times before making the sounds for it. It was directed by Oliver Stone. At first they used some of NIN's old music, and then Trent himself ended up editing the whole thing to make it listenable. Trent expresed his desire to do more sound tracks in the future. The Sound track will be released under Trent's own record label nothing records and will feature a new song 'burn' by NIN.
Woodstock will be coming up soon, and I've heard that you will be preforming after Crosby, Steals, and Nash. Also apperaing there will be Pop Will Eat Itself, also on nothing, which Trent helped get on the tour bill.

2. Any stage fright?

Nine Inch Nails typical touring Trent is comfortable with, however one Trent remembers was terrifing. When we opened up for Guns and Roses, in a gernam stadium, people were throwing sausagues and everything else at us. Obviously the fans hated us, which made Trent realize not everyone needs to like him.

3. what is NIN on stage? Any pranks?

None that Trent would like to admit to, but getting five guys together can end up in a 10 year olds mentality when it is done.

4.How do you put it together live?

Trent made the album in studio, when it had to be done live he got people who understood NIN and that helped him get it across live.
Live shows have lots of energy, and we've made lots of mistakes. Playing live is like anger is a main source of energy, the show can get pretty disorderly, but 300 shows and no deaths yet, we are doing pretty good.

5. How about how people interpret NIN lyrics?

Nine Inch Nails prints lyrics so peple can understand them. Trent doesn't like to talk about them, and doesn't need other people to understand them either, the lyrics are for him.

What's next?

A tour is coming up, and a new soundtrackpossibly with flood. NIN is working on some new album material. Being on tour in strange situations is completely different then the complaicency that Trent normally write his music in. So you might want to expect a different sound.
