Looking for info on WILLIAM S. MORGAN of Nelson Co., Va. and his wife ELIZABETH. Their son ALBERT G. MORGAN (my gg grandfather) was b there in 1827. He became an inspector of customs in New Orleans, La. prior to the War. He joined the Texas Volunteers, Confederate States Army in 1861 and returned to Va. to fight in several battles there. He mustered out for over-age in 1862 near Richmond and soon after mar MARY D. ELLYSON of New Kent Co., Va. He died of fever in 1864 while under Union captivity in New Bern, NC, two months after birth of their only ch, BERDETTA ELIZABETH MORGAN in Va. Albert was described in 1861 as 5 ft 11 in tall, light complexion, blue eyes and red hair. Family oral history indicates he may have been captured for either spying or smuggling for the South. This history also says his wife was detained by yankee troops in Norfolk and not allowed to see him while he was sick. She apparently gave birth while in captivity. She never remarried and returned to her family in New Kent to raise their dau.

I am a descendant of JOHN and GWENLLIAN MORGAN of abt 1570 in Llanwenarth, Monmouth, Wales; then, in 1680 CHARLES and ANNE MORGAN were in Farnham, old Rappahannock, Va. Next, in 1741, the family of JOHN MORGAN was in Fauquier, Va. He was born in Gloucester, Va. in 1758; he served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War for Independence and according to records issued by the Dept. of Interior in 1843, he sereved under General George Washington at Valley Forge, Pa. He later moved to Burlington, Des Moines, Ia. where he died in 1843. If you have info on any of these folk, I would certainly like to share with you.
