Journey Of Moments   4 of 8

Sven: Name? (looking at her with a sly smile) Oh, you're sweet. What's your name?
Girl: Oh, change the subject will you? My name? First I want to know what you were going to say to me out there a moment ago.
Sven: Oh. (1/4 smile) Forget it. It's too late for that now and I've found you deserve a much higher level of respect than what I was about to give you.
Girl: That doesn't surprise me.
Sven: Oh? (eye-brow jump) And just how far have I fallen in the passing moments?
Girl: (Pausing a moment to grasp what he has said) Oh, I'm not sure, I still want to know what you were going to say before.
Sven: (Lost for what to say in suite) Possibly, but I would like to know to whom I am speaking.
Girl: I can be fair, but only to those I know...
Sven: (Realizing what she is getting at with her relentless game playing) Sven. My name is Sven (he gets a feeling of deja-vu).
Girl: Jennifer. (smiling)
Sven: (with a huge smile, realizing he could have guessed that, being a very common name) Hello Jennifer.
Jennifer: What? (recognizing a hint of mocking in his voice)
Sven: Nothing, other than... (head rolls from one side to the other)... it figures.
Jennifer: (Intrigued) It figures, how?
Sven: That your name would be but one that means, 'Fair maiden.'
Jennifer: (smiling in partial relief) Oh, and you were about to say, Sven...
Sven: (realizing he's not going to get away from it, he sits down in the corner and motions her to have a seat beside him) If you wouldn't mind, Jennifer.
Jennifer: No, not at all. (She sits down and puts her right arm around his left arm)
Sven: (After a pause, spoken slowly and softly)
Look high and into the sky,
Look low and see the gr--...'(and Jennifer glances toward him) '...green grass grow
    Now look left,
        then right
    and like in the night
    nothing you will see,
but look at me (he moves to look into her eyes)
    and see possibility
for in me lies half a treasure
    which when put together
    may be shared between
                you and me.

After another pause with Jennifer now looking away and at the floor...
Jennifer: (with a relunctant tear from her eye) Are you satisfied now Sven? I hope you're finished or else you're gonna make me cry. I was fine before I saw you walk in...
Sven: Well... my apologies, but you did insist... (almost surprised as now she has changed)
Jennifer: Yes, I know, it is my fault, (drying her eyes) you said I deserved more respect, but you were wrong, I was wrong too, just look at me, give yourself some credit, you almost had me, but I know better than to fall for someone like you, how many times have you said the things you've said to me to other girls? I thought I could be the one to be here today and gone on the same day, but I should have known better once things turned back into the store; now that role is going to fall on you.
Sven: (As if in thought) Oh. Did you have to. (Looking up at her as if he owes her something.) Straight out. The stuff about the ex-girlfriend was a lie, the girl I saw was someone who got the same words as you just got, except that lil' episode ended with her friend kicking me, if you get the point.
Jennifer: Good for her, (getting back to herself) I suppose I oughta do the same, afterall, the only reason you even came in here was to try your little plan on me, wasn't it? And I even made it easy for you, didn't I? To think I came on to you first, I'm not a fool, am I?
