Gods: Dawn of the Gods - Pantheon of the Gods - Known Demi-Gods | |
The Gods were pleased with their creations and for countless millennia all existed in harmony. Time brought the passing of day and night. The waters and storms shaped the land and the plants and animals lived, thrived and died in their natural cycle. But there came a time when some of the Gods wanted more from that which they had wrought. They proposed creations with minds and emotions. More than simple beasts these would be people of varying races that would live in all places. Bez, knowing best the ways of moving, breathing creatures, voiced his concern that these thinking animals would bring great change and they would seek dominion and understanding and could conceivably affect even the Gods themselves. But his protests were overruled and so the Gods created humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, orcs, goblins, ogres, lizardmen, and many others.
As these beings lived, grew and died, so did new Gods arise. Ephrale the Lover appeared from the emotions of love and caring between peoples and individuals. Attokin the Conqueror come from the conflicts that also evolved. Ploughshares and swords brought forth Strakis the Forger. Gree the Trickster sprang from the lies and deceits in the hearts of people and their desire for luck and good fortune. Sunamron the Wise was birthed from the endeavours of those who sought to understand and comprehend their existence and pass on knowledge and wisdom. Lassal the Healer grew from the care of those who sought to help their sick and afflicted fellows. And the needs and drives of people for such necessities as food or the goals and ideals of truth or justice or vengeance seeded Kern the Hunter.
And so the peoples of the world lived and died, talked and fought, loved and hated, created and destroyed. Many of the Gods were soon worshipped by the races. Lumarha of the Day grew strong from the praises of most peoples. Danahl of the Night drew energy from the dark and evil places of the heart and the world. Sunamron was revered by the wise and knowledgeable. The power of Caere, Bez and Hallar was supplemented by the adoration of their followers but they continued to derive their main strength from life, animals and plants. But not all the Gods were worshipped by huge throngs, though they were still powerful from the oft times unwitting devotions bestowed upon them. Few temples to Strakis the Forger exist, but blacksmiths and metalworkers abound. Lies flow freely and Gree the Trickster took his strength from the duplicity of people.
The powers of the Gods increased due to their followers and many of the deities began to make demands and place conditions and requirements on mortals. So the religions developed and the Gods even began to take a hand in mortal affairs. The priests, clerics and paladins of the Gods were granted spells and powers in return for work done in their name. Thus it was that some of the Gods sought dominion whilst others opposed them, though some favoured harmony and balance and aided neither side.
And so it is today as the Gods still seek their own purposes through the affairs of mortals.
