The creatures began to shove them with spears in an attempt to direct them out of the clearing. Both humans winced and decided it would be a good idea not to argue. Even Aloysius bowed his head and walked with them. With so many monsters the pegasus was not strong enough to fend them off.
They kept walking down a dirt path while their enemies talked among themselves in a strange language of hisses and clicks. Karan finally got curious and whispered to Aloysius, "Do you know who these creatures are?"
"There is a legend of tribes in this area that gather sacrifices for false idols."
Giran raised his eyebrow at the conversation, "For what?!"
"If these creatures are the ones I have heard of they spill the blood of innocent travelers in hope that their idols will grant them wishes, I am afraid I do not know more."
"So they belong to a tribe or something?"
"Yes." he replied and raised his head to look above, "And it seems we are there now."
The wooden spears continued to point into their backs and sides as they were led to a large clearning. The ground was made of dirt and for shelter there were many huts made of grass and yellow bamboo. In the center of the clearing were figures carved of stone that were about three feet tall. As the sun came up some of the statues shimmered while others remained dull. The colors ranged from green, brown to red. Karan moved to get a better look at them but as she did she was thrown into a large hut with her other companions.
"These creatures are strong." Aloysius said, "They can shove me into the prision with little effort."
Giran sighed, "Yeah we've noticed, but what do we do now?"
"Escape." Karan replied. She was already looking around for a way to get out. The hut they were in was made of strong bamboo as she pushed against it. A way out was not going to be easy.
"Yeah that's easier said than done Karan." Giran tried to pull the walls apart as well. "We can't tear this hut down and even if we could I'm sure we're well guarded."
Karan shuddered at the thought but kept looking. Eventually she looked above and saw a small hole. Three feet above her she tried to reach it but couldn't. "Look up here." she said as she tried to jump again, "I swear I can see something."
"I know what I see." Giran groaned, "A hole and it's only a few inches wide."
"No but there's something above it, I see feathers." she took a deep breathe and bending her knees jumped up again with all her strength. This time she touched the hole. Aloysius and Giran watched in surprise as her body turned into a ray of golden light and she disappeared.
