Patternfall

At the beginning of the session, the kiddies were all in Amber, and Hazard was having recurrent dreams and nightmares about the future. Oberon had given the order to Benedict to be ready to attack at any time, and at the other end of the Black Road, things were stirring.

Quotes from the session:
"So Jess, not a word from my own daughter?" Caine, apparently alive again.
"I look at him, my face goes white with fear, and I turn and run away as fast as I can."Elizabeth, Jess's player.
"Sap. I take out my camera and get a photo of her. Never mind that it oughtn't work, it does. I hexed it up for just this kind of moment." Hazard

"Wha - What is it?" Jessica, unsure as to whether to accept a drink
"Green." Hazard

"I ask her back to my flat to look at my Olympic medal" William
"Then you screw." GM

The army set off, through a Trump gate, with Benedict at the other end as a one man beachhead. Hazard stayed behind for a while, on Oberon's orders, and he told her he had no idea how the remaking of the Pattern would affect her dreams, but he hoped it would lay them to rest. Hazard, struggling with some terrible mental images, including one of being seduced by an uncle, and one of Deirdre falling over the edge of the Abyss, thanked him, and stole his signet ring when he put it down.

She was the last to set off, and Gerard was left behind to pick up the pieces after the mending Oberon was going to do.

The fight was much the same as detailed in the books, without Bleys present. The net result was the same, as Hazard led Bleys's charge. Corwin did his bit with running the length of Shadow, and making his own Pattern. Brand took Deirdre hostage, and backed up to the Abyss.

With William and Jessica watching, he and Random faced it out there, and then Dierdre tried to break away. A silver arrow from behind a pile of rocks took him in the chest, and another took him through the throat. As he fell, he grabbed out and got Deirdre, dragging her over the edge with him.

Willaim screamed something incomprehensible, and tried to throw himself over the edge. Corwin was also rushing forward, and Random stopped William while Benedict knocked Corwin into unconsciousness.

All fell out exactly as in the books, with the Unicorn rising from the Abyss and giving the Jewel to Random, who turned aside the storm. The funeral cortege was seen, but Dworkin was not the driver.

Jessica then announced her desire to find out who the Archer was, and was rewarded with a twisted smile from Hazard, and the sight of her father Caine, at which she turned and ran. Hazard managed to take a photo of her. (Hazard and her intra-Shadow camera are rarely separated, after that incident.)

William was wandering disconsolately, so Hazard put them both in the same billet, and got both so completely drunk that they forgot about everything. The drink was coloured, or possibly called, Green.

Hazard set about the forging of various letters, including one setting her up with a Regency, and adopting her as a proper member of the family, absolving her and her family from any guilt on the part of her grandfather, Brand. She then threw the Ring down into the Abyss, noting as she did so the odd colour of the clouds down there, and gave the letters to Random, asking him not to divulge their contents unless and until it was needed. Although rather surprised, Random had no reason not to believe her. The kiddies had all escaped swearing fealty, somehow, through being too drunk, and one of Hazard's letters also helped her dodge that. (The green drink would possibly be diluted by the addition of alcohol.)

They set off back home again, or entered the Courts as peacemakers, depending on who they were. Benedict was going to stick around, but news came of a minor rebellion, so he set off, Hazard in tow to do all the tedious stuff, for Amber. The rest followed at their leisure, to find that Gerard had done a good job as Regent for several years.

William and Jessica went back to Earth together, and ended up sharing a house. There, they stayed. In fact, they stayed even when people started trying to kill them.

About a year after they had moved there, a truck span out of control and almost killed William. Three days later, the 31st of July, Jessica was mugged by men with knives. Being rather nastier than them. she saw them all off. The lovers then did nothing, for an entire year. William went to medical college, Jessica studied at home. They did nothing about the attempts, considering them to be a mere quirk of fate.

A year after that, William was out on his trike, speeding along the old A25, a lethally curved road, a bike tire blew out. He was deposited in a thorn bush, and was extremely lucky not to have been killed. The bush was the only decent vegetation in the whole place. (William's Good Stuff had reached about ten points of luck, even after training and so on.) Three days afterwards, the flat was fire-bombed while Jessica was home. Once more, it was Midsummer.

At this point, they again decided to do nothing about it, but instead stayed on for a while, while William completed his clinical studies and went on to anatomy. Jessica started a fencing club, to supplement their income, and both of them were snapped up for the British Olympic Fencing squad. Also on the squad, and he trained at their club, was a young man called Luke, who was very good indeed at any sport he tried.(At this point it must be mentioned that Hazard's Father was the King of Kashfa, and no relation at all to the Luke in the books.)
The lovers (and Luke) stayed around for another year, until the Olympics came around, and so did another attempt on William. It seemed that there had been no attempt on Jessica that year. Luke had been away on business, working as a salesman, on the thirty-first.

At the end of the session, the kids were preparing for the Olympics, except Hazard, who was dreaming of her own death, and acting as Benedict's equerry, while not telling anybody she was doomed.
