Log Twenty-Four
Murder mayhem and the usual. Sheep. Tree grows in the castle
At the beginning of the session:
- Jessica was in Teraximion, having been left there by Hazard.
- Bronwyn was seducing Arrym, Dalt's son, in the army in Begma.
- Aneirin was selling the favours of Morag the sheep to get himself a tent in the army.
- William, Fauna and Hazard were wandering through Shadow, trying to find out what the hell was going on.
- Josh, still a minor character, was in the infirmary, dreaming intern's dreams.
- Midnight and Corwin were in Dalt's camp, along with Midnight's suitor, Lord Dis of Begma.
Quotes from the session.
"We could offer Dalt the sheep." Aneirin
"We could offer Dalt my body." Bronwyn.
"I think he'd prefer the sheep." Aneirin
"Crowley kills the sheep" GM
"Huh!" Aneirin
"Dalt's dead." GM
"Pity. I liked him. He saved my sheep. Aneirin
"So tell me, Fauna - we all want to know - is your last name Kate?" Hazard.
Hazard had had to dash off every few minutes from the mission that William was on, and finally abandon it altogether, although she gave no reason. Her mind was bringing up memories of the future again. Then, as she returned to Teraximion to tell Benedict she had no clue what was going on, she got a Trump call from Chaos to say that as Merlin was missing she would have to take over there.
In Teraximion, a Shadow-storm suddenly hit as Benedict and Jessica were leaving for Amber. As Benedict was rather incapacitated by it, having opened up his personal Shadow and let the Shadow-winds in, Jessica was left with an unconsious uncle. To get out of the situation, because her Trumps were disfunctional, due to the Abyss effect on her Pattern imprint, she had to take him into the Abyss and then out into Amber. (Only Jessica could think of such a thing. Hmm, Benedict is unconscious and quite safe where he is. Let's take him to the power-base and stronghold of his greatest enemy, and then hope we can both get out alive...) At least, that was the plan...
Crowley was there, and Jessica could not move, physically or psychically. As she tried to do something, she noted that Benedict was covered with some kind of red firey effect, of the sort generally only employed in B-type movies and Star Trek lasers. He was screaming in pain, and Crowley walked around behind him and stabbed him in the back. As he moved in for the killing blow, Dirithas was suddenly embedded in his right shoulder, and Hazard teleported them all out.
When Benedict failed to recover from his wound at the usual rate, Jessica wanted to know why, and Hazard explained about Tanakan steel, an illegal metal which prevented shapeshifting and regeneration of the wounds caused by weapons. For a while, his life was in danger, and Jessica was terrified of what would happen if he did die. He survived, as sarcastic and crochety as ever, to limp back to Ros, capital of Teraximion, to recover.
Bronwyn and Arrym got along famously, and Hazard, despite the fact she was looking after Benedict, had to keep Trumping Bron to get her moving again. Aneirin decided that he liked Dalt, because Dalt had saved Morag from a fate worse than death. Arrym gave Bronwyn a Trump of himself, which Bronwyn then refused to give to Hazard when she next called. As shortly afterwards the entire camp was roused to capture Aneirin and Bronwyn, by Dalt and his second in command, who might possibly answer to the name Crowley, she reckoned this was a mistake, in retrospect.
About this time, Jessica, Hazard and Benedict Trumped back into Amber, to meet with the queen, Coral. Coral explained to Jessica that there would be no repurcussions for hurting Moradin. Then, Hazard got a Trump call from Bronwyn...
Meantime, Crowley was discussing betrayal, and when Bronwyn tried to kick him, used magic to cover her with the red fire that had taken Benedict down. She curled up, he killed Morag the sheep and then asked Aneirin if he would betray Hazard in return for his life. The answer, of course, was yes. Bronwyn made her escape, and Trumped Hazard...
And what had William and Fauna been doing all this time? They had discovered the cause of the Shadow-storms. Ygg no longer existed. With Brand as a guide, they had found it out, and Brand had borrowed their knowledge without them knowing, which he thought was a fair swap. They were now accompanied by Bleys instead, for no reason except that he likes to see the younger ones failing. They had Trumped Benedict, who had agreed to come and see what was going on. He had not arrived, and after a while the Trumps stopped working at all, standing them there. (At that point, Benedict had been in the Abyss.)
Back at Dalt's camp... Hazard had screamed for Benedict, who came though the contact with her to Bronwyn, and together they took out most of the officers in the army. Aneirin teleported away, leaving his clothes behind. Hazard killed Arrym, Benedict killed Dalt, and added another death-curse to his collection. Afterwards, they were joined by Midnight and Corwin, who had played only a minor part in the battle. Hazard was sulking, because Dirithas had been lost and had not returned to her - her Patternblade was lost.
Time passed, and they all healed nicely, although after the Abyss Benedict was left with a scar in his back to add to all the others from Crowley. Josh, the intern, refused to fall to the blandishments of Bronwyn, and played chess with her instead. William crawled back from his mission as the others were sent on a different mission. He got back to discover that in the week they had been away the staff he had cut from Ygg had grown to a full size oak tree, starting from the cupboard in his room where he had left it. Flora, whose decorations it had ruined, was not best pleased.
The others had been sent out, at various times, to find the King, and the Emperor Merlin if they wanted to avoid a war. Aneirin and Bronwyn had been put together, and Midnight was out in Shadow without any way of contacting her, so she was not told to do it. Aneirin and Bronwyn hung around in Kashfa, while Jessica went to Chaos.
