Log Twenty-Three

At the beginning of the session, Jessica had accidently ended up in Teraximion, thus letting Crowley gain a foothold (mindhold?), and William was looking for volunteers for his mission to assassinate Dalt's son, Arrym. Aneirin was practising and racking his spells, and the rest of the PC's were hanging around looking decorative.

"I am the cleverest, nastiest, and most intelligent person present." - Hazard.
"You are one of the cockiest people I have ever met." - Jessica.
"Yes, but, my little kiddywink, I am good enough to be cocky." - Hazard.

"I'll pick up the pillows and beat Gerard senseless." - William
"This assumes he has any sense in the first place. You fail, of course." - GM.

"You're a liar and I hate you. But please don't hit me for saying that." - Roger, William's player.

"Right, I am ending this session here, while I can still breathe for laughing, but if you want to talk about wet T-shirts, as appertaining to me, you know where I am, Roger." - Diana, GM. (Roger is Elizabeth's girlfriend. Jessica, played by Elizabeth, nearly exploded at exactly the wrong time.)

"Much as I loathe to use the term 'grounded,' that is what you are, due to a lack of gaols here. Confined to barracks, and Hazard, you are hereby decommissioned and, so I can keep an eye on you, you're drafted as well." - Benedict, dictator mode
"Gods, he's cute when he's angry..." - Hazard

APOLOGY COUNT: Two. One from Jessica, one from Hazard, both to Benedict.

In Amber, Bronwyn was falling for young Josh, the doctor, and crying over Moradin as well. Brion was off in Shadow with his girlfriend, and William was just about to set off. In Teraximion, Jessica was staying in a wonderful inn, and had discovered the Ri'ik as a staple food source. Midnight had returned to Amber, having betrayed her father, and given the troop movements he had planned to Benedict. (This was covered via a phone call, and continuity is a little out, but it should have happened last session.)

Returning to her room after a day out in Teraximion with Aurora, Jessica found the window was open, and she was sure she hadn't opened it. She went out again the next day, and admired the sunset with a street urchin, who gave her a warning not to mess with Pewsey and his lot, and ran away. Jessica returned to her room, to find a well-dressed man waiting there with a crossbow. She was taken into custody, and somehow managed to get knocked unconscious. When she awoke, she was tied to a chair, and a man bigger than Gerard was looking at her and picking his teeth with a dagger. He introduced himself as Pewsey, and asked her who she was and what she was doing here. At this point, they were interrupted by Hazard, who breezed in, gave the man a lot of money, and took Jessica and Aurora away.
She took them to Benedict's town house, and then teleported her boyfriend, Aydrien, in. Aydrien is in fact cover for the fact that Hazard was Benedict's lover - in case any nasty rumours came out, she had a wonderful Shadow man to love.) After Hazard had temporarily dumped the boyfriend, they were about to begin eating when Benedict came in. He gave them a bollocking that lasted three hours, and pointed out the facts that they had missed: Teraximion was directly connected to his own mind. It was therefore able to sustain damage if his mind was damaged, and vice-versa. The Abyss had finally entered Teraximion. What did this add up to?
He only said about three hundred words at most over the course of two hours, but both of them just stood there, and Jessica was almost in tears. Hazard did cry, when Benedict told her she was going to be court-marshalled, and he removed her commission on the spot. She also got hit by his G&T, when she glanced at him and he got angry, and she didn't even dare to move to wipe her face. Benedict then banned Hazard from ever bringing Aydrien into the Shadow again, and confined them to quarters. It was about seven in the evening. They had been grounded and sent to bed, and both of them were old enough that they could have had their own children - Jessica did. Neither of them felt particularly mature. Afterwards Benedict went up to try and apologise to Hazard, who snarled at him for a while before she relented. Jess never realised what they were doing in the room next to hers.

William went off into Shadow, searching for Dalt's army, or failing that, a solution to the problems that beset them, or some sort of clue. He was met a few hours into his journey by his friend, Matt the Raven, who requested that he return the book he had borrowed, as the library was going critical. William took a detour to the Palace of Books, and the Realm of Dreams, and there the Lord of Dreams did not recognise him. It seemed that time in that particular Shadow was going backwards whenever there were no Amberites there. William called Benedict and Hazard and Fauna, as the only available Amberites who were answering Trump calls, and explained the situation to them. Something was going wrong and he had no idea what.

(Back in Benedict's Shadow, Jessica had thought she would get asked to help, but Benedict returned alone, having volunteered the others to find out what was happening. Jess was rather cross, as Hazard had deliberately mislead her to keep her out of trouble.)

Meantime, Benedict Trumped Aneirin and Bronwyn and told them to go out and find Dalt's army and join up as spies. They found a map of Shadow in the Library of Amber, and headed off to Begma, a Shadow whose main export is rain. There, they found a damp sheep. This is, oddly, important - Aneirin proclaimed that the sheep was holy, and would lead them to the army. He found a lead and a collar, and they wandered along as the sheep told them to go. When they were challenged by a sentry, Aneirin said they were the Priest and Priestess of the Damp Sheep, and had come to join the army. The sentry was too wet to think, and would have believed anything of this Shadow. (Think Wales in Winter. Think rain forests without the trees. It was not just a damp sheep, it was a f*ck*ing sodden sheep.)

The sentry let them through, and they came to see Dalt. The gallant general nearly sent them away as being utter loons, but then his son, Arrym, wandered into the tent, and fell for Bronwyn, and Dalt didn't have a chance.
