CURATOR'S OFFICE

Having fun at a Christmas Party

The Philippines is in South East Asia

The Philippine flag: Blue for the sky's infinite freedom, red for courage, the white equilateral triangle for equality, the sun's eight rays representing the first eight provinces to revolt against Spain, and the three stars at the corners of the triangle representing the countries three island-groups.

Trivia: it is only the Philippine flag that can signify when the country is at war.  At wartime, the flag is displayed with the red up representing courage to defend our freedom.
I imagine the stereotype curator to be some old fossil, but believe me, I'm far from that.  I live in Manila, Philippines -- that's in South East Asia -- but you already knew that, right?  I work as the Administrative Director of a training center in Tagaytay City which is some 120 kilometers south of Manila.  Manila and Tagaytay are both beautiful cities: Manila is the capital of the Philippines, while Tagaytay boasts of having the smallest active volcano in the world.  To top it all, this tiny volcano sits in a lake within a lake -- a beautiful site that visitors from all over come to view.

Managing the training center is what keeps me alive, but it is the arts that I live for.  I acted in a play when I was in kindergarten, and I loved the theater ever since.  I became a playwrite at a very young age but eventually turned to short story writing.  I love movies -- watching an average of one a week.  It is very recent that I got to appreciate paintings though.

Klimt... now how did I stumble upon him?  I was in a shop having some posters framed when I saw "The Kiss" displayed and for sale.  One look at the reproduction and I instantly fell in love with it.  It was quite expensive so I put the frame down and tried to forget about it.  Are you kidding?  The moment I went home, the obsession of acquiring the painting consumed me.  I headed back to the mall, through the nightmarish traffic, just to buy the repro.  I assumed that if I liked this one painting of his, I might like his other paintings.  For me that logic works for musical artists; why not for painters.  So I sought to research his paintings and sure enough I liked his other works.  I did more reading and I found his symbolism to be deep and thought-provoking.  I realized I related to his sense of non-conformity -- something I  think attracts me.

Since I enjoy making websites, I decided to share the wonderful works of Klimt with the rest of the internet.  I just hope I do him justice.
