"Hi! These HTML tips are soooooo helpful!! Is there someway YOU could put them all on one page so I could just print them out and keep them for future reference? I'm currently writing them out but, it's hard and if I make an error in the copying I'll never know why my codes aren't working. I am a newbie and the help available on this channel is simply priceless. Keep up the excellent work!!"

I certainly agree with Janabel, and so I have begun the project of recording, editing, organizing, and providing navigational aids to these tips. The content, the "priceless" tips that Janabel is referring to come from news groups. I have the greatest respect for all the alt.discuss groups. I don't believe I have ever visited any of them without leaving with some new knowledge and an armload of new favorites. One person could not possibly catalog all the great tips from all the discuss groups. I will try to gather many dealing with HTML in hope that you will leave with some new knowledge.

When you're over a link. 1. Hit CMD + CTRL, and the addy where the link will take you will be displayed in the scrollbar! Try that when you highlight switch user below the Webtv logo!
2. Hitting the "Tab" key will take you to the next link on the page!
BOUNCE CODES ??? The new method for plus users with upgrade. Address to yourself. Then in the body do these steps: 1. Press alt.key + z 2. Press return one time. 3. Press cmd key+a 4. Press cmd key +x 5. Scroll up to end of subject line, press cmd+v (you will have this symbol § ) Then press send. It will be bounced back to you in seconds.
Use cut and paste in the chatrooms, too. If I'm talking to someone in another room, I copy the /msg their nickname part and paste it into the message box each time I want to speak. It's a lot quicker to hit Cmd and V and type your message than it is typing in that whole /msg their nickname every time.
(Editor's note:
Dash the Cat made me aware that many people need a basic Cut, Copy, and Paste tutorial. Here it is.
And, you can practice Here.)

When setting up your signature, type in: (HTML) (BODY BACKGROUND="http://addy of your background.gif" BGCOLOR="#000022" TEXT="#eee685") Notice you will have a background AND a bgcolor in the code. When you write an e-mail, you will see khaki letters on a dark blue background instead of that grayish black one, when you send the e-mail, the recipient will only see the background gif you used, not the blue color. The grayish background only shows up when you're typing, not when the e-mail is received. Let's say you're using a light-colored gif for a background and you want to use black text. When you're writing your e-mail the black text over the grayish background is hard to see. Adding BGCOLOR="#ffffff" to the body tag of the sig makes it easier. Now when you write your e-mail it's black letters on a white background and like the grayish one, it doesn't "cross over" when the e-mail is received.
Here's a trick you can only use one day a week and only if you're up veryvery late. LOL To mail someone when WebTV closes for maintainence on Wednesdays do this. Hit goto, erase http:// type in mailto:anyone@thier-domain.com it will take you to write a message.
When using GoTo you don't have to type in www or the .com or .edu etc.?
Heres one to use with the find key. If there is more than one example of the word you want on a page let the find key highlight the first one then hit cmd/g to go to the next one on the page. Also you can use the find key on your page editor rather than scrolling thru all the html with the arrow key.
When your cursor is in the sig box, you can touch "tab" and your cursor will jump down to "Done"? Then just up-arrow one time and the cursor will be at the closing html tag.
Instead of re-typing an addy... if you have it in your "go to"... why not copy and save it, then paste it into your posting? That way, you won't have to type it out. Also... if you're posting two addys... you can copy one from your "go to", then paste it into your "find" window... then copy it from there and paste it into your posting.
Use the "find" window to store a second url to take to the transloader. It will stay there until you either power down or switch users.
Converting html to gif or jpg. In your sig box... following html and body opening tags... (embed src="//file path for your html document") Then closing body and html tags. When you embed your html sig, your background gif or color and your text color will show up only in the sig box. So... before the embed src tag, you'll want to duplicate the background and text info in the opening body tag.
In the sig box, for those who do not just "type in a few words" the scrolling from bottom to top and back again can be a pain in the...sig box! If you place the opening html tag in thefind box and hit the key, you'll go straight to the top.
When sending a letter instead of pushing the address book, put the cursor on "to", click, and the addy book comes up. Saves a couple strokes, anyway :>
Heres a way to link to your email page, put this code in. (a href="wtv-tricks:/mail")Email(/a)
If you have a website you can use that to store your signatures. Here's how to do it. Put your cursor inside your sig box. Hold down Cmd and hit A then hold down Cmd and hit C this will copy the text in your sig box. Now go to your webpage directory and make a new page. While in the editor hold down Cmd and hit V this will paste the text from your sig box to the editor. All you need to do then is save it and whenever you want to use that sig you can either cut and paste or you can put this in your sig box. (html)(embed src="url of saved sig")(/html) That will add that entire page in your sig.
Heres the code for stop audio. On a webpage put this code in. (html) (body bgcolor="black" text="white" link="yellow" vlink="yellow")(ahref="client:stopaudio")Stop Audio (/a)(/body)(/html) And in your email sig put this code in. (embed src="url of page with above code") Thats it! You can substitute the text link for an image link if you want to.
For transparency on your mail page use the following tag: (img src="// Entire URL Here"transparency="50%") Using the transparency tag can give you a different effect and can also result in faster loading. The "greater" the number, the greater the transparency.
BG stands for background and is used in a HTML tag or code. It could be used as part of a tag for background color or background sound. For sound the HTML tag would look like this: (bgsound src="// Entire URL Of Midi") For a solid background color the tag would look like this: (body bgcolor="pink") And if you had an image like something on a postcard and you wanted to cover your entire e-mail page with it then the tag would look like this: (body background="http://Entire URL Of Gif") Those are just a few examples .. you can do just about anything you want. You just pop them into your sig box with the opening and closeing HTML tags .. and you have yourself something like a designer's e-mail page. It's fun .. and if you need help we're all here ready to lend a hand. :))
For image alignment. You have your choice of right ... center .. and left. To center an image:(center)(img src="// URL Of Gif")(/center) To put it on the right: (img src="//URL Of Gif" align="right") To put it on the left: DO NOTHING .. It pops on over there by itself on default. :)) I LOVE that one. LOL And always remember to use both the opening and closeing html tags.
Use the "A" key to highlite and copy an entire page. For sentences, etc. enter the begining word in your "find" box, depress the "shift" key and use the arrow key or key's to highlite. When you have everything you want to copy highlited then depress the "cmd" and "c" key's to copy it, followed by the "cmd" and "v" key's to paste it.
This site is a handy dictionary of the net lingo used on the internet. http://www.netlingo.com/
(A HREF="url of site")(IMG SRC="url of image" add height, width and border if ya like)(/A) makes the image clickable to a site or put in "page.html" in the (A tag and make one page linkable to another by an image...you can even thumbnail by using the same image url in both tags and useing 50 for height and width.
I took this html straight from my sig box and it works. (center) your connection rate is:&rate: the last time place you visted was :http://www.oocities.org/cgi-bin/homestead/file_mana ger (a href="wtvtricks:/community:) community (/a) (a href="http://192.216128.62:1611")Switch-User(/a)(/center)
