There's not much I can offer in the way of original content about Star Trek, other than my own commentary, so probably the best thing I can put behind that cool Enterprise-E gif you just clicked are my favorite Star Trek web sites. So here are a few to start with, and I'll add more as I find them.

• The Warbird Empire. This is a really cool Star Trek e-zine, and right here in GeoCities
• Here's what The Warbird Empire has about Species 8472! "Fascinating", as Spock would say...
• The Temple of Shatner! This site is hilarious whether you are a Star Trek fan or not!
• The Delta Quadrant Alien Guide A great site cataloging all that is known about most of the species Voyager has encountered in the delta quadrant

Maybe if I get excited enough about it, I'll elaborate on my thinking that the Federation should have been conquered by someone a long time ago. Around the time of the movie "First Contact", we had the Dominion on one side, they were stirring up the Kingons on the other, and then the Borg came! Also remember that the Romulans are always out there waiting for an opportunity -- I'd say they missed a peach!

While I'm at it, the 1997 season cliffhanger for Voyager (Scorpion, part 1) showed us that the Borg are nothing more than highly effective Patleks. They like things that make them go, and they have plenty of 'em! To paraphrase Janeway, "They don't investigate, they assimilate". For every "adaptation" they make, they just look at what you hit them with, do a database lookup, and employ some other culture's defense against a similar weapon. They have zero creativity, just lots of tools. Obviously this is both a weakness and a strength, but one we understand better now.
