Libertaria Rings Guide
How to join a Libertaria Ring ![]() |
The PageTV logo:![]() You can put the above PageTV logo on any of the pages on your site to lead people to a page that is part of a sequence of pages, called a string or - if the last page leads back to the first one - a loop. This can be done by adding the following code, with a hyperlink around it to lead visitors to that respective page on YOUR site.
You can link this PageTV-page on your site to any other page by using the following code:
Don't forget to surround this entire piece of code by brackets, like all HTML tags! Note that there only are quotation marks before the number 7 (= seconds waiting time before the next page comes up) and at the end of the URL, but nowhere in between! You can vary the number of seconds and you can put in any URL, but preferably use a page that is already part of a PageTV string. Then, tell your friends about it, tell them to make a similar page that links up to your page. LIBERTARIA RINGS: Libertaria Rings differ from other PageTV strings and from pages that are refreshed or looped in that Libertaria Rings start and end at the Libertaria Rings Page. Being listed on the Libertaria Rings Page gives some indication of the quality of the ring. Unlike loops that remain on one site, or strings that go nowhere, a Libertaria Ring starts and should return to the Libertaria Rings Page, allowing visitors to run the ring again or go to another ring. ![]() To indicate to visitors that there is a page on your site that is part of a Libertaria Ring, you can add the above logo by using the following code:
MAKING STRINGS: Strings can be made by putting the following HTML code in between the HEAD tag and the TITLE tag:
Don't forget to surround this entire piece of code by brackets, like all HTML tags! Note that there only are quotation marks before the number 7 (= seconds waiting time before the next page comes up) and at the end of the URL, but nowhere in between! To make strings, replace the URL in this code by the URL of the subsequent page in the string. TO PARTICIPATE IN A LIBERTARIA RING: On the Libertaria Rings Page, there are strings and rings. Libertaria Strings consist of pages that invite for new pages to be added, in the expectation that the string will eventually become a new Libertaria Ring. To make a start, click on a String of your liking and study the page(s). Then create a page that is consistent with the Theme of the string. Don't forget to put the above code at the top of your page. Then send an email to Libertaria, requesting for your page to be added as the subsequent page in this string. On approval, Libertaria will change the URL in the page on the Libertaria site to the URL of your page and the pages will be listed on the Libertaria Rings Page as a new Libertaria Ring. Alternatively, you may email any page in any ring with a request to be inserted. INSERTING NEW PAGES: If you are in a Libertaria Ring and like to insert a new page, just replace the URL after the META tag at the top of your page with the URL of this new page. Before you do this, ensure that this new page is suitable and contains the URL of the subsequent page. CONSISTENCY: Some rings like to present a consistent look on all pages. This may apply to the background color of the page, or a specific logo that reappears at the same spot on all pages. Other rings may consistently present a specific line of text at the top of each page. To have a look at how this can work, go to the Example Libertaria Ring. In this example, the pages in the ring are numbered. In such a case, just copy the respective code and make sure you get the hyperlinks and the page numbers right! CHANGING RINGS: If you do not like the Theme of the ring you are in, or do not like some of the pages, leave the ring after sending an email to the page that comes before your page, requesting your URL to be replaced by the URL of the page that follows your page. It is important to follow this procedure to prevent broken rings. After this procedure has been completed successfully, go to the Libertaria Rings page and choose a string of your liking, or go to one of the pages in any Libertaria Ring, and send an email with the request to be inserted. SPLITTING RINGS: If the number of pages in the ring becomes too large, split the ring by linking the first half back to the Libertaria Rings Page. To do this, use the following URL:
TIPS: Libertaria prefers a refresh time of between 4 and 10 seconds to allow enough time for loading without viewers getting bored, but there may be exceptions. Many viewers prefer fast rings with simple pages without content that requires long loading times, e.g. graphics, and without text that requires scrolling. Such rings can have a faster refresh rate. As long as a ring is still under construction, avoid wallpaper, frames, java, sound, large graphics, and anything else that may make loading difficult. Afterwards, you can always enhance your page once it works. As a first priority, make sure that the ring works smoothly! Do not include code that prevents pages to be cached, as many people like to wait until the entire ring is on cache before viewing. DISCLAIMER: Listing on the Libertaria Rings page is no guarantee that rings will run smoothly. There are always people who mess things up, either accidently or deliberately. Libertaria does not want to tell other people what to put on their pages. Nevertheless, Libertaria will follow up complaints and, if problems persist, the respective ring will be delisted from the Libertaria Rings Page. Libertaria reserves the right to list and delist rings and strings at its own discretion. ![]() |
