By: Kyle Williams
Age: 11

On the day of December 30, 1975 Eldric 'Tiger' Woods was brought to the earth. Eleven months later he swung his first golf club in his back yard. Tiger Woods ©1997 BracoUSA Photo    Copyright 1997 BracoUSA

This would be the beginning of his admirable career.

Tigers life started off very fast and wonderful. He appeared on his first television show at age of two. Tiger showed up on 'CBS Network News' and the 'Mike Douglas Show' putting with Bob Hope, who is a professional actor who loves golf.

Emerging on televisions 'That’s Incredible' at just five years old, was Tiger Woods! Tiger shot a score of forty-eight on nine holes at the US Navy Golf Course at only the age of three.

As you can all ready see, Tiger Woods was a well known name throughout the United States. Tiger even arrived on the 'Today Show' at the age of six.

The name Tiger Woods would be known throughout the United States and even the world. His life only seemed to get greater and greater as it grew and went on.

In seventh grade Tiger had a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.86. This shows that Tiger was not only good at sports, but that he was good in school. Tiger was very popular with others that were his own age.

Tigers father was a Green Beret lieutenant. Earl Woods (Tiger’s Father) served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Tiger’s father promised himself that if he had another son, he would start to golf with him as soon as possible. At that he did, eleven months later they were playing together. Earl started him off on the right foot.

There is an odd story behind the way Eldric Woods has the nick-name 'Tiger'. The nick-name 'Tiger' was given to him by his remarkable father, Earl Woods. 'Tiger' was the same nick-name as a South Vietnamese combat buddy, Nguyen 'Tiger' Phong. He saved Earl’s life a couple of times in the Vietnam War.

Tiger’s mother, Kultial (Tida) Woods, is proud of every part of Tiger’s accomplishments from golf to grades.

Tiger’s parents met in Bangkok, Thailand. Their weeding was in the year of 1969.

Eldric 'Tiger' Woods was born at a hospital in Long Beach, California as a healthy baby. He now lives in Isleworth, Florida. He moved to Isleworth because of the glorious golf weather down in the south.

Tiger has two half brothers and one half sister, from his fathers first marriage.

Tiger is very close to his golf caddie (man who carries Tigers clubs for him) Mike 'Fluffy' Cowman. Tiger almost considers him family. No one is exactly sure how he got his nick-name Fluffy.

In Tigers present life he does not have much time to himself anymore. He is always busy either playing golf, signing contracts or something else. Tiger became a professional golfer on August 26, 1996. His first professional win, in 1996, was in the Las Vegas Invitational. He won 297,000 dollars in this single tournament.

Tiger believes that his father was the start of his outstanding professional golf career. I agree with this option.

His most recent award was the ESPY (ESPN) which is the break through athlete of the year.

Tiger Woods is Michael Jordan’s hero. Here is a personal quote from the professional basketball player himself:

'I admire [Tiger] for what he has done thus far because for so long it was a sport that a lot of minorities couldn’t play...... so in that sense he’s carrying an extra burden along with him to succeed and expand across the racial barriers.'

Tiger believes this to be a great honor.

At just age two Tiger played on the US Navy Golf Course and did amazingly well for a two year old. His astonishing life started when he was very young as you can probably see. Tiger won the Optimist Junior Tournament at the ages of eight, nine and twelve. He also won the same tournament at ages thirteen, fourteen and fifteen. Tiger finished second at the Insurance Youth Classic National. He accomplished this at both age thirteen and fourteen.

Also at age fourteen, he came in second place at the PGA National Junior. Coming in first place at only age fifteen, youngest ever to win the Junior National Championship, was golfer Tiger Woods. Returning in first place for the Edgewater Classic, the Los Angles City Junior Championship and the Orange Ball International Tournament was Tiger Woods at age of fifteen. Tiger was named Golf Digest (golf magazine) Player of the Year for this golf season. He was also named Titleist-GolfWeek National Amateur of the year.

Tigers life will only get better as time goes on. Already, Tiger is one of the greatest golfers of all times.

Since Kyle used a lot of information from my web site he decided that it would be nice to e-mail
me a copy of this essay which he did for a school project. Once again, I enjoyed it so much I
decided to put it on my site. Great work Kyle!
