News/Statements Singapore Chess Federation
A new team has been chosen to lead the Singapore Chess Federation. They issued a written statement on the day of the Annual General Meeting on the 3rd of May 1998, targetting many areas that needed improvement .
They aspire to improve chess in the following areas during their administration:
The new team consists of the following people:
However, it is not clear how will the new team proceed to fulfil their pledges, as a clear plan of action was not indicated in the same written statement. Chess players in Singapore shall be watching the new Executive Committee make good their promises. Questions arising from the lack of details in the new agenda are to be expected. What is the frequency of training for the Junior Team? Why there is no similar provision made to train our National Men's and Women's Team? Is the training free for National players? Why is increasing the number of FIDE rated players and the number of FIDE rated players, two very urgent issues, not mentioned in the proposed agenda? And etc.
I suppose we have to give the new EXCO time to settle in before they are ready to tackle some of the problems we are facing. It maybe a mite impatience to demand so much from them just yet. Why, they only just got elected! Give them a break!
Regardless of my reservations, I still wish the new EXCO the best and it is my hope too that all Singaporeans will also give you their full support.
Also, I want to give my most sincere thanks to the previous EXCO lead by Mr. Wang Mong Lin. Their single most notable acheivement was to raise enough money to pay for our share of a chess playing venue at the Singapore Intellectual Games Center ( SIGC ) in Bishan.
Lastly, if readers have any interesting proposals or comments targeted at chess in Singapore or questions pertaining to SCF specifically, you can either write to me or to council member Mr. Chia CS directly. Mr. Chia is currently the webmaster hosting detail news from the Singapore Chess Federation. Emails to myself will be posted on the Comments, Discussions & Essays section.
