This may be a bit of old news, but it is news nevertheless. It was a Sunday night in October, 2000. I was getting ready for bed when the telephone rang. On the other end was a man from my past who I knew as Anthony's maternal grandfather. He told me he had a surprise for me.
Then, Anthony came on the line. It was a very emotional moment. After nearly 15 years, we finally made contact!
How did this happen?
During my search over the years I had managed to contact Anthony's maternal grandparents who, not surprisingly, had been searching for him themselves. His mother had alienated him from them as well. We exchanged contact information, with the promise we would contact one another if we found him.
On that evening in October Anthony, now emancipated, had been invited to a cousin's birthday party. His grandparents showed up there as well and had a fine reunion. Then they told him I had been searching for him, and the rest is history.
We have been able to get together several times since then, are are building a good relationship. Weekly telephone contact is now regular.
He is being very patient with me while I learn to be a father.
I'll add more to this as time and events permit.
