Developing Quality Content
Web sites need unique, interesting content to be popular and have style. Even a site which has incredible design won't be successful unless that design is filled out with outstanding content.
You can't really start designing a site until you know what the content will be. This section will help you start thinking and forming ideas about your content.
Where Do I Start? |
Determining
what to put on your web site in the first place can be
very difficult. What are your interests? Obviously, your web site must be based on your interests. Do you have any special knowledge or skills which you could share? Decide early on what direction your web site will take. You will be more decisive and well-equipped to start designing if you have a good focus. |
Making It Interesting |
Once
you've decided what your site is going to be about, you
must determine how to make your site stand out from the
rest.
There are probably gazillions of web sites out there covering the same subject as yours. How are you going to make your site different? What have they done that you could improve upon? What could you include on your site that the others haven't? Why should people visit yours instead of the others? What will make yours unique? |
Who's Your Audience? |
Design and write your site for the correct audience. What type of people will be viewing your site? What style appeals to them? For example, you wouldn't use a "grunge" typeface for an older, conservative audience, nor would you use marble backgrounds and formal writing to attract a youthful, trendy audience. |
Goals |
Once
you've formed a good outline of your site, set
goals for it. What do you want your site to accomplish? In what time frame are you going to finish your site? Make sure your goals are reasonable. (For instance, don't expect to create a whole site in a couple of days!) However, the more challenging your goals, the greater the sense of pride you will gain when you reach them. Most importantly, do your best to accomplish your goals. |
