What was I hoping for?
A baby!
I am 29 years old and have been married to a great guy
(visit his martial arts homepage) for almost 9 years (this coming June 24th, 1998)! We finally have our first child, born this past March 23rd, 1998. We were told in September 1997 by my husband's sister that she was expecting a baby (#3) and she asked us to adopt it. Of course, we said yes!! She was due March 18th, 1998, then the date was changed to March 12th but the baby didn't make her appearance until March 23rd. She had us all waiting on pins! The entire family was excited! I went to all of her ultrasounds last and was constantly amazed by it. We found out in January that the baby was probably going to be a girl and I was very pleased to hear that, because I was able to finally start planning in PINK! However, I still worried, right up until the last days before her birth, that there had possibly been a mistake. With all the little dresses I had bought, my husband said it would be cheaper for the baby to have a sex change than to buy everything all over again. Hee hee!
Happily, they were right about her being a girl and she constantly brings us joy. She weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces and was 20 inches long. At her 1 month checkup, she weighed 10 pounds 2 ounces and was 21&1/2 inches long and just today (May 28) at her 2 month checkup, she weighs 12 pounds 15 ounces and is 23 inches long. She got a needle in each leg and barely fussed at all. What a little trooper! *wiping tears of pride from my eyes* Ahhh, motherhood! It's greater than I ever imagined!
Anyways, her adoption will be finalized in September and that will be another party! I'll post pictures soon. I promise! Here's the rest of our story...
When we were married a young friend of ours discovered that she was pregnant and asked us if we would adopt her baby. We already
knew that conceiving would be difficult for us so we accepted. She moved into our home with us right after our wedding and she and I attended pre-natal classes together. The bedroom was all ready for the baby that was expected in mid-January of 1990. However, it was not to be because, on the date that the baby was due to be born, he died as a result of his umbilical cord becoming tangled around his neck. I stood by our friend and we cried together and I assisted in the delivery of this beautiful baby boy, whom we named Jon-Eric. I held him in my arms and now I hold him in my heart. Every year that his birthday goes by, I think of how big he would be and how he would look, but now, I finally know what it's like to really be a mom. On the inside, I have always felt like a mother. In August of 1990, we applied to adopt and now we have been patiently waiting now for 8 years. I found out, on June 24th, that the Public Department would start processing adoption applications that were submitted in 1990, late in the fall or winter of 1997. Now that we have a baby, those adoption plans can now be put on hold. I don't know if we'll adopt again. We'll just have to take it as it comes.
And now, thanks to Sheriberry Graphics, Here are my two adopted Cyber Babies! Aren't
they cute? The boy's name is Sandon and the girl's name is Anchelle. Please feel free to give them a hug and a tickle, and they love to be cuddled!
We live in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. New
Brunswick is where North America's first 5 cent chocolate nut bar was made, and is home to the world's highest tides! It is also the only officially bilingual province in Canada, with the English/French population split being about 60% and 40% respectively!
My first language is French, then English and I am working on my espanol! I attended the only French school (Samuel-de-Champlain) in an Anglophone majority city and graduated with the first graduating class of that school!
My hubby and I live in a 120 year-old house in the city, close to our families and our work. I work at the Xerox Canada National Call Centre, for Xerox Business Services, just up the street from our house. We have a small dog (half Spaniel and half Chihuahua) whose name is Poco Loco (Spanish for 'a bit crazy') and a fat tabby-cat named Willow (who fetches Q-Tips!).
