Grace and Cullie purchased John Pitts and Minnie Smotherman's first old homeplace, where the old log house stood. It was located approx. 2 miles east of South Pleasant Grove Cemetary in Calloway Co., KY. The farm was approximately 35 acres in size.

It has not been proven conclusively that Marcus is the son of John Green Smotherman and Nancy Williams. Additional documentation is needed for this. Marcus probably came to Kentucky after the birth of his son John N. in Tennessee on 12-MAY-1841.

Mary Elizabeth was called "Aunt Sis" by the children of her brother John Pitts Smothermon. She often used the term "Smitherman" when referring to family members. In her later years she became ill and came to live with her sister-in-law Minnie Smothermon (John Pitts' wife). She died at the home of Minnie Smothermon, near Hazel, KY.
