The Beluga whale lives in arctic and subarctic water and do not make extensive migrations. The one exception to this is the beluga from the central Bering Sea who summer in the MacKenzie estuary (Seaman and Burns, 1981) Movement of herds is seasonal. In the summer, they live in the costal waters and river estuaries. In winter they live in the water off the pack-ice and polynia. It can be said that they maintain coastal habitat rather than open seas. |
