Philippa Ann Manicom

Philippa Ann was born Apr - Jun 1857 in Tintagel Cornwall England,
about 2 years after her sister Philippa Ann Matilda was born 1855 and died Aug 26 1855.
Philippa Ann was the youngest daughter of James MANICOM & Elizabeth (Betsy) BRAY
who had married Jul 27 1841 in Tintagel.

Philippa's mother Betsy died on May 25 1862 when Philippa was only 5 years old
so it seems that her sister Elizabeth Rechabina at age 19 yrs,
not only took over housekeeping duties,
but became like a second mother to her youngest siblings.

Philippa married at the age of 22 years
between Jun - Sep 1879
to Alfred Stephen BISCOMBE.

Stephen was born abt 1856 in Trevalga,
the son of Samuel BISCOMBE & Elizabeth.

Stephen & Philippa had 9 children by the 1891 Census:

1) Edward John born 1880 in St Juliot

2) William James b Jul - Sep 1883 / died Jul - Sep 1883

3) Charles H born abt 1885
4) Arthur b abt 1886 / died bef 1891
5) Elizabeth Ann born abt 1887
6) May born abt 1888 / died bef 1891

7) William James born abt 1889
married his 1st cousin, Agnes Josephine MANICOM abt 1922
(Agnes was the daughter of his uncle, William Henry MANICOM & Josephine BARRIE)
They had at least 5 children.
Alice died in Cornwall England on Aug 10 1964.

8) Alice born 1890 / died bef 1891
9) Samuel B born 1891

Another daughter seems to be born to them in the fall of 1900:

10) Philippa May


One of their descendants today is a grounds-keeper at the St Juliot Parish Church :- )
Another has just contacted me from Epsom Surrey, the only 1 to move away :- )
