Carothers is a sept of the Bruce clan. Their ancestral home is in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. It is a beautiful place in the southwest corner of Scotland near the border. In the late 1600's many of the family went to Northern Ireland where they lived in the Londonderry area. Later some representatives of the family moved to the colonies, particularly to the Cumberland County area of Pennsylvania.
