HOMESCHOOLING FAMILIES

I'm not actually going to list family pages here because you might as well go to Jon Shemitz's list of Homeschooling families (see below) or take a tour through one of the Homeschooling web rings.

Jon Shemitz's homeschooling families list. This is not a complete list of homeschooling families who have web pages, but it's a great place to browse. It is organized into pages by homeschooled students, homeschooling families, and homeschooling "graduates". This page connects to Jon's other homeschooling resources pages.

ONLINE SUPPORT

Online support can take a variety of forms. I've listed a few bulletin boards and some places to read about the many mailing lists and newsletters available through e-mail.

Message Board at Kaleidoscapes. Wide-ranging message/bulletin board, with several sub-boards dedicated to specific topics (e.g., curriculum, high school and college, unit studies). Homeschooling newbie FAQ; some excellent links.
Vegsource Homeschooling Board. Looser format, more chatty board for homeschoolers. Some sub-boards are now available (religious, secular, swaps).
Independent Study High School Message Board. For parents and students using high school correspondence courses (e.g., American School, Keystone). Includes links to schools.
Homeschool E-Mail Lists and Newsletters.
Homeschool Pen Pals. A service for finding homeschooled pen-pals with similar interests. List restarted on 1 Sept 98.
Online discussion and mailing lists from Jon Shemitz's homeschooling resource pages.
Homeschooling support on the internet. Many different ideas for finding support online.

A to Z Home's Cool Homeschooling. An excellent collection of resources and articles on homeschooling.
High Schooling Homeschool Page This page is maintained by a homeschooling high school student. Essays, learning objectives, FAQs, internet resources for homeschoolers.
Homeschool and college. Cafi Cohen's excellent site on homeschooling older teens and college admissions for homeschoolers.
Home Education Magazine. Homeschooling information and homeschooling resources pages. Sample articles from Home Education magazine; discussion boards; online newsletter also available.
Jewish Home Educator's Network. Some Jewish and general homeschooling resources; also FAQs, subscription information.
School is dead, learn in freedom. Karl M. Bunday's page on homeschooling freedoms. Lots of articles on a wide variety of topics; very well researched.

CURRICULUM IDEAS - UNIT STUDIES AND LESSON PLANS

Unit Designs. Sample unit studies; or they will produce a customized unit study on virtually any topic.
Homeschooling Daily. Information on homeschooling, sites, lesson plans, family living and entertainment, online unit helps, daily and weekly activities. And you've got to love that page of chocolate links.
Free Online Unit Studies. More than 150 curriculum units -- all sorts of topics.
Core Knowledge Lesson Plans. Lesson plans written by a variey of teachers based on the Core Knowledge ("What Your Nth Grader Needs to Know") series of books. Plans are arranged by grade; lots of topics available.
Edison Academy Curriculum Guides. Put together from a variety of sources, this is one family's list of subjects and subject content generally taught from Kinergarten through grade 6.

Texas Assessment of Academic Skills. Standardized tests for grades 3-10 from 1997. Files to download in zipped format; answer forms and answer keys provided.

SCHOOLS/CATALOGS WITH HOMESCHOOL MATERIALS

The Calvert School. Kindergarten through eighth grade.
Keystone National High School. A high-school curriculum alternative.
Oak Meadow School. Curriculum (K-12), resources, list of mail-order resources.
Timberdoodle Catalog. Products in a wide variety of subjects; reviews are fairly complete, though they have a Christian bias. Foreign language tapes and CDs are worth looking at.
Elijah Company. Lots of information aobut homeschooling; online order form for their catalog.
Greenleaf Press. History study packages.
Laurel Springs School Curriculum, plus online classes for grades 5-12.
The Clonlara School. Not a provider of structured curriculum; this school has a much more "unschooling" approach.
Family Unschoolers Network. Book catalog.
