The Bishop Family
Welcome to my Bishop family website...
As far as I have traced them, my Bishop ancestors were living in a fenland village called Soham, roughly halfway between Ely, Cambridgeshire and Newmarket, Suffolk.
My family connection is
through my Gt Gt Grandmother - Adelaide Bishop
who was born in Burwell in 1877. She was one of 18 children of James
Simpson Bishop (1842-1901) and his wife Ann
Bowers (1843-1889) of Wicken,
Cambridgeshire. When the youngest child of their family was
born, Ann died, leaving James Simpson Bishop with their children.
They were often looked after by their Aunts and Uncles -in
particular George and Sarah Farby
of Little Thetford. Sarah Farby was Ann's sister. James Simpson Bishop
died in March 1901 from amongst other things: Influenza and
Peritonitis. He was living at High Fen, which is just
to the West of Wicken village.
Adelaide Bishop married my Gt Gt Grandfather, James Yarrow in 1896 at Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire. They went on to have approximately 18 children as well - two of them died in their infancy. My Gt Grandmother was the third of their children and she was born in 1899 - she is still alive and well today !
It is believed that the youngest of James Simpson Bishop and Ann Bowers' children - George Jabel Bishop emigrated to Australia and became a Mayor of Adelaide, Southern Australia. I have not yet descovered any information which would support this possibility and I would welcome any information on this subject.
