research into the Taylor families of Ely and Soham, Cambridgeshire.

Ely...

My Taylor family of Ely were living in Cambridge Road during the 1870's. The last Taylor in my ancestry of this branch was Vine Taylor, my Gt Gt Gt Grandmother. She was born in 1852 and was the daughter of William Taylor, a labourer.

Vine married George Cross in May 1870 at St. Mary's Church, Ely and gave birth to my Gt Gt Grandmother, Mary Ann Cross in the June in 'Bugs Hill', Ely.

connected families to this branch include:

CROSS: of Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Soham...

My other Taylor family were living in Soham during the early 1800's. The only definite ancestor that I have found was an Elizabeth Taylor who was either born in 1819 of 1824 in Soham.

She married my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, Simpson Bishop (b. 1819 Soham) and they had approximately four children before moving to Fordham, Cambridgeshire sometime in the mid 1850's. Baptism records show my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather - James Simpson Bishop (b. 1842 - d. 1901) as the eldest child by at least 5 years.

connected families to this branch include:

BISHOP of Soham, Fordham and Wicken, Cambridgeshire.

I still have a lot more research to do on these two branches and hope to continue this in the near future.
