Cooper

Welcome to my Cooper page...

The research into my Cooper family is a fairly recent thing. Having descovered my link late last year I have been trying to find the Cooper relatives.

My own Cooper family were living in Ely during the 1881 Census. They were living in a place called Walpole Lane, which is now named Walpole Court, just off from Silver Street in Ely, Cambridgeshire. The head of the family, my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, was called Robert Cooper and he was a Shoemaker, born in Ely in approximately 1808. He was married to Elizabeth whose maiden name I do not know. She was born in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire in about 1811. St. Mary's Church, Ely

Their daughter was my Gt Gt Grandmother, Harriet Cooper, born in 1855. She married Alfred Newman, my Gt Gt Grandfather, born in 1851 in Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire, the son of Charles Newman a blacksmith of the same village. Harriet married Alfred Newman at St. Mary's Church, Ely, on 3rd June 1877. They lived for some time in Church Lane, Ely before moving down to Waterside, Ely. They had approximately 13 children - one of which died as an infant.

Harriet died in September 1925 and Alfred in August 1933. They are both buried in the Ely Cemetery.
