Read the story of how she came to be with me.
Cara
Cara: Well, what can I say. She is gorgeous and here is the
story of how I came about her.
I was telephoned on 12 November 1997 as I was sitting down to
dinner (I was lucky, I've normally just got into the bath or
shower!). It was Kath Miller, asking me if I was prepared to adopt an
intact Red Dobie bitch as there wasn't really room in any of the
kennels. I said that I would and agreed to telephone the people
concerned.
Kath hadn't spoken with them, but was told of their plight by a
woman who shows Dobermanns called Liz. The original owners had heard
of Liz, and had told her what they where planning to do.
I telephoned the next evening to find out when I could pick her
up. It was agreed for Saturday 15 November 1997 at Watford Gap
services . (Watford Gap being incredibly famous in England,
particularly for the North/South divide).
I set off at 10.30am wondering what I was letting myself in
for. I needn't have worried. The owners of Cara were already there
and were waiting for me. I filled out the appropriate forms for them,
and they proceeded to get Cara from the car. All I saw running toward
me was the most highly strung and friendly bitch that I had ever
seen! Cara immediately licked my face and jumped up (which is a
remarkable feat in Dobies, they're normally so indifferent when they
are outside, particularly with strangers).
I got her into the car and took her home. I was worried that
she wouldn't settle in too well, but she seemed not in the slightest
bit worried about going to a new home. She soon got used to her new
"bed" and was asleep in it when she had had a good sniff around.
I am considering Cara as a 'PAT' dog. This type of dog goes
into hospices for terminally ill people, and homes for the elderly
etc... where they help them to laugh and smile again. Cara would be
wonderful at this, as she is a naturally friendly dog. Also, it will
help people understand that Dobermanns are the Best, and that
the majority of them are sociable and friendly animals.
The following pictures aren't the best ones of Cara that I
could have taken, she has been in much better positions since, but I
thought that you might like to see them anyway. I suppose they will
do as a taste of much better things to come!
Above: Cara settling in very nicely thank you!
Right: Myself and Cara on top of Newnham Hill, very
close to the Badger Sett that I watch, on a particularly
freezing and very windy day! Cara is always on the hunt for
something, as you can probably tell from her "Let me attem"
stance.

*Coming soon* Much better pictures of Cara, so please stay
tuned. These trans aren't particularly good ones of Cara (and someone
is in a couple of them that has completely ruined them!), and I have
managed much better and funnier pictures since. Also, more text will
follow about her.
