Cara
What more can I say about Cara? Plenty! I'ts almost a year on
now since I collected Cara from the service station on the motorway,
and I am "still" learning all her little quirks and foibles to this
day!
For example, Cara suddenly seems to be very frightened of the
toaster! She never used to be scared of it, but all I have to do now
is push the bread down into it, and away she goes to her little
hiding place upstairs, which happens to be under the desk where I
have my computer (surprise-surprise!) She is also very frightened of
the vacuum cleaner - but then that is not so unusual, and of the
microwave door being shut! All I can think of is that she has had a
beating or something sometime, and these noises remind her of a bad
experience. It is just a little strange that it took so long for her
to show it? If anybody out here has any suggestions regarding this
behaviour, then please feel free to
e-mail me.
Just for the record, Cara follows me absolutely everywhere, but
then, all Dobes are like this as you all know. Bathroom, bedroom,
spare room, office, kitchen; no place is sacred from the presence of
my beloved Cara!
Cara the Hunter!
When I take Cara out for her walk, she is a totally different
Dobermann. She is not the Cara we all know and love! When Cara is out
for her walk, she means business, and I mean of the hunting kind! No
animal is safe. Right from hedgehogs - which she picks up when they
are in full bristle, to wanting to stalk monstrous bulls in the
neighbouring fields. Consequently, I cannot let her off the leash
under any circumstances. If she does happen to slip loose from me,
she completely ignores me and runs past taunting me on the way to get
some cats for dinner! The last time she slipped loose from me was
when she was tied outside the shop I had gone to for a newspaper. She
had chewed on the dog-clip on the leash and managed to prise herself
away from it. I will give Cara her due, she waited for me outside the
shop until she saw me appear, and then she did a runner! I
decided that the best policy was to ignore her (after I had tried to
get her back a couple of times), and I went home and left the front
door open for her.
Sure enough, 15 minutes later (after I had called the dog
warden out to help me catch Cara before she caused an accident or bit
anyone) she came running in, panting her little head off. I wasn't
cross with her, but it meant I had to call off the dog wardens help
which was a blessing. After the 'phone call, I suddenly saw blood all
over the carpet. On closer inspection, it turned out to be from all 4
of cara's paws! Every pad on every foot looked like it had been
sliced with a scalpel or a piece of glass. I took Cara to the vet,
who promptly gave her antibiotics, and advised me to rest her and not
let her walk for a few days! Yes - tricky! Fortunately, Cara didn't
need any persuading for this piece of advice, because she was in a
great deal of pain. But I have no doubts at all, that if she could
slip her leash again, she would and to hell with the
consequences!

Cara on the hunt!
Apologies for the quality of these 2 pictures, but it is a
little difficult trying to take pictures with one hand!
