This month's field trip was at the Abbey Farm. I did not attend this field trip, for I was out of state. So I got my daughters together in order to put this page up.
There were 3 Moms, 3 Dads, some relatives and all the kids in attendance that day. Everyone met at the church in the morning and drove their own cars.
The animals they saw at the farm were goats, sheep, chickens, a calf, a pig, and rabbits. You were able to buy animal feed to feed the animals. The goat and sheep walked around freely. The other animals were in pens.
The first class was to milk the goats. In order to milk the goats, the kids were required to wash their hands. Most children participated. One of the lil' boys missed the bucket and the goat's milk squirted everyone. The owner then made ice-cream out of the milk but no one was allowed to eat it due to health precautions.
Then everyone sat on blankets and picnic tables and ate the lunches they brought. During this time, all the children caught 2 inch long grasshoppers and threw them at each other. The owner also brought out diary ice-cream for everyone.
The second class was woodworking. Two toys were provided for the making. One for the adults, one for the children. They learned to use a drill and sandpaper.
The farm had a small pumpkin patch and some families purchased a pumpkin to take home.
Please come back for our next month's field trip!
