Our January field trip was to the Denver Planetarium. We were signed up for a class on the moon, which lasted only 1 hour.
There were 7 adults and 13 children in attendance. The teacher taught the children many things about the moon. He talked about astronauts on the moon, the atmosphere and the other different planets.
Movie slides were also shown of the moon in comparison to the earth, the sun and the other planets. He explained the different shapes of the moon, gravity and oxygen.
We were shown how the moon gets its craters thru an experiment with flour. He had 3 plastic storage bins with flour in it and several different size balls. With the bins on the floor, he would throw a ball into the flour and watch it bounce. This showed us the "crater" it made in the flour, similar to the moon.
We were given a video on astronauts and the moon for our group. Then our group went out and looked at all the displays they had. Some of us met at a McDonald's Playland for lunch afterwards, then departed for home. The children had a wonderful time!
