October 27, 1998

We went to church on Sunday. The reason why this is such a rare thing now is that walking over a hundred yards hurts my knees so badly that I seldom walk that far any more. But, Faye made a deal with a co-worker: going to church for her church's open house in exchange for going to a seminar with Faye on the 14th of November.

Everyone had a good time except Bryan. He claims that in the classroom that he was in, they had a shouting contest. He says that it hurt his ears. I think he just needed something to complain about. He's been like that for a while...no matter how much fun he had; no matter how great the experience; there was always something to mar the experience. I hope it's just a phase.

I hope that we get to go next Sunday as well. Dr. John Avanzini will be the guest speaker. I have seen his show, "The Principles of Biblical Economics" on TBN. I am hoping to get Faye to go and listen.

Bryan doesn't just complain about church. On the second of October, we went to the outside of Star Trek: The Experience. We didn't take the ride because with 4 kids and 2 adults, we just couldn't afford to do this time around. Even at the reduced rate of $10 a person for locals. [Out-of-towners pay $15.] Lack of money was Bryan's big complaint that day.

It was kind of fun. The reason we went was because I had the kids line up to get autographs of Ethan Philips (Neelix on Voyager) and Tim Russ (Tuvok on Voyager). I was grateful that my son didn't tell Tim Russ that his favorite episode of Voyager is, "The one where Tuvok is butt-naked." (It was a nightmare that Tuvok was experiencing.)

Johnny liked pushing the button on the "replicator" and seeing the bowl of Klingon "gahk" appear. (That's my phonetical spelling of the word for the edible worms that Klingons appear to relish.)

As we were walking from the hotel to the parking garage, John's autographs blew out of his hand. Bryan said that Johnny could have his autographs. The girls said that they couldn't read the signatures. So, I promised them that when we got home, I would write on the side, the names of the actors that had signed their paper.

Printing the name of the autograph signee is something that I learned from my sister, Frances. We live in one of the world's entertainment capitols and Frances has not let that happy event go by idly. She has at least 3 full autograph books with the signatures of many celebrities. She doesn't have as much time to go "star chasing" these days, but, she will still manage to get to signings such as the one we went to--if she knows about them ahead of time.

Some of the autographs she's acquired include: George Burns, Andy Gibb, all of the Osmonds, Morgan Fairchild, Louis Anderson, Siegfried and Roy, and tons more.
