How to build a Hedgehog Cage

Click here to go straight to the extras.

Here are the instructions for building a hedgehog cage of your own. The dimensions on the cage I built is 4ft. x 2ft. x 15in.. This may be larger that what you want to build, so you change the measurements to fit your tastes.
Materials:
  1. a good tough wirer stainless steal or a coated wire is recomended because it won't rust and keeps your hedgehog from getting hurt
  2. four metal poles the kind you use for staking up plants work the best
  3. electrical ties
  4. wirer cutters
  5. a yardstick

  1. Cut the two side pieces according to how tall you want your cage to be, and make it two foot wide, you can make it as tall as you like.
  2. Next cut the two front pieces they are the same height as the last two pieces and are 15 inches wide.
  3. Take the 4 poles place one front piece on one side and a side piece on the other side.Use the electical ties to tie these together put them from the top to the bottom. Do this until you have it where it is front-side-back-side you should have one pole left use this to connect into a box.
  4. Now cut the floors for your hedgie to walk on these need to be 2 ft. x 15in.. The floors need to be spaced about 8 inches apart so depending on how cage is, depending on how many levels you can make, remember if its more than 1 level tall you need extra wirer to make ladders. Also before ataching them to your cage you might want to consider a hegdehog wheel.
  5. Next put the top on it using electrical ties. Then put in the next floor and after you`ve attached it cut a hole for the laddercut the ladder where it will be easy for your hedgehog to climb and attach it with electrical ties and continue untill you've put in your last level then set something under it to protect your carpet.
  6. Cut doors openings on each level and hing them using electrical ties and then use paper clips or close pins to close it and when your done it should look like this...

Extras
You may want to add some extras things to your new hedgehog home, so I have included the instructions on how to do this.
  • One thing that you seriously want to consider is making a wheel for your new cage, they enjoy these beyond belief. You will need to adjust the height of the levels if you wish to add you to your hedgehog cage. For instructions on how to build a wheel click here.
  • Another thing that you might want to add is a tube for them to sleep in. For instructions on how to make a tube click here.
