The Name Search

epb1937@scrtc.com

I began leisurely to document and trace my tree
And pinpoint the forerunners before me.

All I had was my Great Grandpap Edwards' name;
Knowing his wife and from whence they came.

I traced them from Tennessee to my Kentucky state,
And recorded few pages with names and date.

From the National Archives' Civil War records came,
He was a Kentucky Volunteer Private of little world fame.

The military records were really quite sad
of his illness; but surely more is to be had.

Upon putting it all together, I've become forlorn.
I desire his parents' names from whom he was born.

To the Edwards' Mail Mode subscribed I recently did
In hopes of finding William Asbury Edwards as a kid.

My hopes are fast growing dim.
Why aren't there more records of him?

I need more data and so I beg!
I wonder if he hatched from an egg?

Dollars and time have been spent on this tree.
Will I ever his parents' names see?

Since writing the above poem in 1998 research has revealed that William Asbury Edwards' parents were Thomas Edwards (s/o Langham Edwards & Frances Ingram) & Rhoda E. Godbey (d/o Gabriel Godbey & Sarah Jane "Sally" Crouch). William Asbury Edwards' siblings were David G. Edwards, Sarah J. Edwards, Jacob 'Frazier' Edwards, John Edwards, James H. Edwards, Thomas Edwards, Cirenius W. Edwards, Cyrus W. Edwards and Martha A. "Marthy" Edwards.

The Thomas Edwards family lived in Casey County, Kentucky in 1830, 1840 and 1850; lived in Edmonson County, Kentucky in 1860; lived in Casey County, Kentucky in 1870; lived in Neatsville, Adair County, Kentucky in 1880 with their daughter (Sarah J. Edwards TARTER) and son-in-law (Peter TARTER).

William Asbury Edwards married 16 December 1862 to Nancy Josephine 'Josie' Harrod while his family was living in Edmonson County, Kentucky. The William Asbury Edwards Family remained living in the general area where the counties of Edmonson, Hart and Grayson County join while his parents moved back to Casey County.

If you are researching any of this EDWARDS Family, I would enjoy corresponding with you and comparing our research. THANKS! Edith
