The 1998 POLSTON Family Reunion
Was held on September twelfth.
Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins
Got their picnic baskets off the shelf.

The reunion was held at Muldraugh Park
And the food was spread at noon.
Everyone arrived toting baskets and boxes
Hoping to uncover the dishes soon.

After bowing heads, a lengthy prayer
And asking God the food to Bless,
Then, someone yelled "Come and get it!"
And all fell in line to eat the good mess.

There were vegetables, salads, and meats.
Oh, yes! There were cakes and pies
Of all varities and kinds;
In each container there was a delicious surprise.

Plates--even platters--were filled
And rounded extremely high;
And carried to tables
That were located nearby.

Everyone got quiet for a while
As all were so very busy
Tasting and savoring this and that--
Especially that brought by Aunt Lizzie.

As the food began to disappear,
The ladies began to share
Recipes and craft ideas
And the entries in the recent county fair.

The men folks discussed
Politics, world events, and sports;
And continued returning to the table
Re-filling their plates with food of all sorts.

Oh, Yes! There were the genealogists
Whose main interest was family trees.
They shared pictures, names, dates, and stories
Hoping and searching for linking keys.

Conversation led to who's kin to who
As the food continued to disappear.
Plates were all being pushed back
While enjoying the atomosphere.

The children played on
Slides, merry-go-rounds, and swings.
Their laughter and play
Touched many individuals' heartstrings.

Some gathered around
To play horse shoes and games.
Others told outrageous stories
And made boisterous claims.

The POLSTON descendants enjoyed
Several hours of togetherness;
Then the time soon came
For "Good-byes" nevertheless.

Into the boxes and baskets
Empty dishes the POLSTONs did pack
With family members saying,
"Next year we'll be back."

The place will be Muldraugh Park.
The time will be noon.
The 1999 date will be September 11th.
Take advantage of this delightful opportune!
