The Rosary

The Rosary and the Sacred and Sorrowful Heart

The rosary is the most powerful weapon to touch the Heart of Jesus, Our Redeemer, who so loves His Mother." -- St. Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort

DID YOU KNOW...

  • ...That praying 5 decades (one mystery) takes up only 1% of your day?

  • ...That St. Thomas Aquinas preached 40 days straight in Rome on just the Hail Mary?

  • ...That Pope Leo XIII wrote 9 encyclicals on the Rosary? Remember, he was the one who overheard Satan conversing with Jesus at the tabernacle!!!

  • This most useful site on the Rosary I have ever seen, The Holy Rosary, not only contains interesting facts, but also instructions on how to pray the Rosary. But remember to come back here!

"I come from Heaven. I am the Lady of the Rosary. I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and to ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend Our Lord any more, for he is already to grievously offended by the sins of men. People must say the Rosary. If people do as I ask, many souls will be converted and there will be peace."

about Our Lady of Good Remedy

800 years ago Christians were being captured by the Moslems and sold into slavery by the thousands, and nobody knew what to do about it. Then, in the year 1198, a man had an idea. St. John of Matha founded the Trinitarians to go to the slave markets, buy the Christian slaves, and set them free.
To carry out this plan, the Trinitarians needed large amounts of money. So, they placed their fundraising efforts under the patronage of Mary. They were so successful that, over the centuries, the Trinitarians were able to free thousands and thousands of people and to return them safely home.
In gratitude for her miraculous assistance, St. John of Matha honored Mary with the title of "Our Lady of Good Remedy." Devotion to Mary under this ancient title is widely known in Europe and Latin America, and the church celebrates her feast day on October 8. Our Lady of Good Remedy is often depicted as the Virgin Mary handing a bag of money to St, John of Matha.
When in need--for whatever reason, but especially where you have difficulty obtaining help--invoke the aid of Our Lady of Good Remedy, and you will surely experience the power of her intercession.

    Ways to Simplify Your Life

    by Wendy Cukierski.

--Begin by rethinking the way you live.
--Assess what you need and don't need.
--If you haven't used it in a year..get rid of it!
--Seek like-minded people to help you and support you --Find alternate ways of doing everything...and I mean everything.
--Follow your "gut" feeling..it's usually the Holy Spirit.
--Eliminate non-essentials. They clutter your mind and house.
--Eliminate time and money wasters. Trinkets..out the door.
    --Have a garage sale.
--Follow the 2 towel, washcloth, sheets, pillow cases, blankets etc. rule. Two for everyone..that's it.
--An outfit for each child for each day of the week. That's it. 7 outfits (according to season) per kid.
--Get rid of the tv. I'm working on this one..hubby is clinging to it. Hard to get a 6'2, 230 pound ex football star off the tv.
--Develop discipline. I'm working on this, too - That way you won't get behind w/ chores.
--Say no to activities that take you away from the family. (Unless it's to teach NFP or something good like that!)
    --Worry about pleasing GOD first!
    --Treat everything as irreplaceable.
--Buy good quality things..they will last longer.
--Spend time in SILENCE to ask God what to do.
--Take the kids on a nature walk, fishing and other things that don't cost money. Teach them how to find enjoyment w/ nature. It will prove to help them when they grow up.
    --Learn from your mistakes.
--Establish priorities. Set goals w/ simplifying. Set up a schedule.
--If something is distracting you, get rid of it; Shut off the phone during the day if frequent phone calls are taking you away from your duties; Throw a blanket over the tv or computer if you are tempted too often.
--Have a plan B and C if plan A fails. If your name is Wendy, plan A always fails!
--Change can't happen unless you change your attitude first.--Desire ain't gonna get ya there...ya gotta get your body in motion.
--Put your wisdom into practical application. Reading how to do something and doing it are two different things.
    --Be realistic.
--Don't spread yourself too thin The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
--Quit wasting.Ê Be a good steward of all that God provides.
--Teach your children about all of the above!

An every day use for Holy Water:

    from Madeleine at Cathmoms

May I make a suggestion to Cynthia and all cathmoms whose home become stressful. This advise was given to me by a priest.

A friend of mine who has those moments in her home does the following:
She keeps holy water in her refrigerator at all times. She sprinkles and stirs some holy water in all her cooking daily. At times when the stress is very great, she opens her windows and sprinkles holy water in each of the rooms in the entire home.

The priest suggested for those who live alone or live on the first floor of a home that you put a small piece of holy palm across the windows and doors to your home. You can do the same think for your car to protect it from being broken into. I knew this priest for over 8 years and when it came to advise of a spiritual nature he was always on the mark.

Another piece of advice given to me from Father DeGrandis is that couples, simply because of the love they have for each other, should pray with and over each other and their children for healing and blessings.

    Angel of Fatima Prayer

"Traditionally the whole month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We want to make up to the Heart of Jesus for our time's great Eucharistic ingratitude. Especially for lack of signs of reverence such as genuflections and nonchalant manners of receiving Holy Communion, receiving Holy Communion in the state mortal sin, the many reported Eucharistic abuses, empty and locked churches, lack of Eucharistic thanksgivings after Holy Communion, loss of faith in the Real Presence, etc. Let us do this by first ourselves having a great Eucharistic reverence, love and gratitude. Second by praying the following prayer in reparation every day:"

"O Most Holy Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the Tabernacles of the world, in reparation for all the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. Through the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners. Amen." From the website of The Monks of Adoration.

And do all things for Your sake.

Let me humble myself and exalt You,

Let me flee from myself and turn to You,
that so I may merit to be defended by You.

Let me fear for myself, let me fear You,
And be among those that are chosen by You.

Let me distrust myself and trust in You,
And ever obey for the love of You.

Let me cleave to nothing but You,
And ever be poor because of You.

"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Father in heaven, when we open our eyes in the morning, Your holy will is before us. If we are husbands, our sanctity is how we serve our wife and children. If we are wives, our sanctity is how we serve our husband and children. If we are single, it is how faithful we are to our friends and family. If we are children, it is how we obey our parents, do our schoolwork, and love our brothers and sisters. If we are religious, it is how we live our vows. Guardian Angel Prayer - (Old)

This is an older version of the ever popular Guardian Angel Prayer that you learned as a kid. I am not sure of it's origins.

O Holy Angel, attendant of my wretched soul and of mine afflicted life, forsake me not, a sinner, neither depart from me for mine inconstancy. Give no place to the evil demon to subdue me with the oppression of this mortal body; but take me by my wretched and outstretched hand, and lead me in the way of salvation.

Yea, O holy Angel of God, the guardian and protector of my hapless soul and body, forgive me all things whatsoever wherewith I have troubled thee, all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in anything this day. Shelter me in this present night, and keep me from every affront of the enemy, lest I anger God by any sin; and intercede with the Lord in my behalf, that He might strengthen me in the fear of Him, and make me a worthy servant of His goodness. Amen.

O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, who merited to be called "just" by the Holy Ghost, I urgently recommend to thee the soul(s) of (Name), which Jesus redeemed at the price of His Precious Blood.

Thou knowest how deplorable is the state and how unhappy the life of those who have banished this loving Saviour from their hearts, and how greatly they are exposed to the danger of losing Him eternally.

Permit not, I beseech thee, that a soul so dear to me should continue any longer in its evil ways; beg Jesus to preserve it from the danger that threatens it; to touch the heart of this prodigal child and conduct him back to the bosom of the fondest of fathers. Abandon him not, I implore thee, till thou hast opened to him the gates of the heavenly city.

Thank you for your powerful intercession on behalf of this soul, so beloved to me.

    Prayer to St. Michael
as originally composed by Pope Leo XIII

O Glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, be our defense in the terrible warfare which we carry on against principalities and Powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, spirits of evil. Come to the aid of man, whom God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil. Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist Thee, nor was there place for them any longer in heaven. That cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men, of his depraved mind, corrupt heart, spirit of lying, impiety, blasphemy, his pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity. These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the Spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered. Arise then, 0 invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate Thee as their protector and patron; in Thee Holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to Thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan, do Thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen

    V. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered hostile powers.
    R. The Lion of the tribe of Juda has conquered, the root of David.
    V. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.R. As we have hoped in Thee.
    V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
    R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

    Let us pray.
O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy name, and we suppliantly implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious Archangel St. Michael, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all other unclean spirits, who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and ruin of souls. Amen.

    The Cord of St. Philomena

    Prayer to Saint Philomena

Prayer of the Month for October 1998

O St. Philomena, I place my children in thy keeping. Illustrious Virgin, who so thoroughly understood the excellence of purity, keep their souls pure and holy in the sight of God. Wise young maiden, who so fully comprehended the infinite value of eternal treasures and the shallowness of temporal riches and power, instruct my children in the value of things spiritual. Assist them in building up rich treasures in the storehouse of Heaven, where their wealth can neither be destroyed, nor taken from them.

Courageous Martyr, who died in torment rather than offend the All-Good God, teach my children a true horror of sin and a love of true virtue. I implore thee, St. Philomena, to obtain for them the courage to suffer persecution and tortures bravely rather than to deny Almighty God.

I ask these favours with complete confidence, St.Philomena, because I know that thou, who gave all to God, can obtain all from Him and I am sure that thou whoudst never refuse to hear the prayer of a mother who implores thy help for the eternal salvation of her child.
    Amen

    The Cord of St. Philomena

Because of the countless favours obtained through the intercession of St. Philomena, her devotees wished to place themselves under her protection. The faithful wore the blessed cord in her honour, to be protected in times of need. The wonderful fruits of this custom spread St. Philomena's fame. The Cure of Ars (Parish Priest of Ars - St. John Vianney) who had so many times experienced the power of the Saint , loved to see the faithful wear the precious cord. Abbot Taccanier, the successor of the Cure of Ars, wrote on November the 26th, l875 that Miss Catherine Lassagne, who had known St. John Vianney for 41 years, had told him that The Cure of Ars had often blessed St. Philomena cords for her devotees. This devotion was practiced not only to obtain healing for the body, but above all, as a way to defend one's soul against all impurity. With respect to this, you can note that the cinctures of certain Religious orders and ecclesiastical robes are symbols of chastity. In the same way St. Philomena, will preserve chaste and pure, from many dangers, those who honour her purity by wearing her blessed cord.

The Cord of St. Philomena is made with red and white yarn crocheted together in chain stitch. At one end there are two knots in honour of her Virginity and Martyrdom. It is worn underneath clothes like a belt. The cord is both a symbol and a prayer. It is a symbol because with it we intend to bind ourselves to St. Philomena with sincere devotion. It is a prayer because in wearing it we pray to St. Philomena to protect us in every moment of our lives.

The purposes of this devotion are:

    1. To obtain, through the intercession of St. Philomena, the means adequate to conserve purity, in conformity with our own situation:
    2. To combat increasing unbelief and to reinforce oneself in the spirit of our faith;
    3. To profess a special love for St. Philomena the wonderworker and deserve her protection against sickness of the body and soul.

Every priest has the faculty to bless the Cord of St. Philomena according to the formula in the Roman Ritual. Many faithful followers of St. Philomena prefer to have the cord blessed in churches where a special devotion to St. Philomena is observed and have it blessed after it has touched a relic of the saint. When the cord is worn out and replaced the new cord should also be blessed.

You can order a cord by e-mailing MaryFrances.

I thank you and praise your holy and righteous name. May my prayer exalt you and your holy ordinance of marriage.
God I wish to serve you and I believe in my heart you have predestined me to become joined in this life with my perfect mate.
As I am your vessel, I wish to become a Godly Wife. Lord, give me the grace, faith and patience to diligently respect my mate as my friend. Jesus grant me the wisdom to understand his thoughts, plans and dreams.
Holy Father you know I am a single mother who is forever focused on the well-being of my children. I'll need your divine intercession to help me transform into a Godly Wife.
Lord help me to be softer and more accepting of my mate's decisions and actions. Give me an attentive ear and a willing supportivespirit to encourage my soul mate.
In the name of Jesus, bless us with sweet words to communicate with each other. Complimenting one another in thought and deed.
Heavenly Father, I know this will be a great honor as I anticipate marrying an anointed man. A devout Christian who ministers and teaches others about Jesus Christ. A kind man who loves the Lord and is committed to serving others.
I pray you protect us from our pride, vanity and past frustrations. Please have mercy, giving us courage, maturity and faith to cherish our commitment to each other and to you. Bless us with an abundance of peace, joy, happiness and prosperity.
Unite our two hearts as one in love forever. May our blissful marriage glorify you, O God.
In Jesus name I pray - AMEN

Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

Prayer of the Month for July 1999

O gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on them. Be not severe in Your judgements, but let some drops of Your Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And Merciful Savior, send Your angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace.

    Amen
