Encounter FM Community Broadcasters Association Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit organisation on the 11th of October 1991.
The station provides
local news and information whilst also promoting tourism in the region.
Major events are locally covered with various forms of our Outside Broadcast
facilities. The charter includes the provision of assistance to emergency
services in times of flood, bushfire, etc., and on the other hand, non
profit community groups have access. They can promote activities free of
charge. Furthermore, schools and colleges have access to facilities for
media studies etc. The audience is a mix of all age groups, and many listeners
have said that they have tuned permanently, listening to all program styles.
.
The Association currently has over 150 subscription members and over 60 on-air presenters.
1) the primary target audience comprises all age groups, all of whom retain an interest in community affairs as a whole, plus an interest in music styles which are not normally catered for in other mediums.
2) the programming will focus on locally relevant issues and will give preference in favour of the cultures and lifestyle within the defined service area.
3) community broadcasting is an art which nurtures and fosters voluntary creative involvement from members of that community.
As a Community Broadcaster, Encounter FM operates under the Codes of Practice adopted by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, (CBAA) complying with the Broadcasting Services Act 1992.
