The
influence of Elmore James has been enormous. The history of the blues is
more than a musical anthology. The blues was born the day the West African
shoreline fell from the horizon. It was raised amid the institutionalized
savagery of the Deep South and flourished in the dark heart of America's
largest cities. We owe the blues to those who bore the pain of enslavement
behind the frightful shadows of our collective soul. The Rhythm and Blues
Show, then, is dedicated to the men and women who traveled beyond our ignorant
place, and to those who could not.
I present
the show every Monday from 9 till 11pm from the studios of
Encounter FM community
radio at Victor
Harbor.
Victor Harbor is a popular holiday resort, one hours drive south of
Adelaide (the ex-home of The Australian Formula One Grand Prix). Many throng
to Victor to see the Southern Right whales through the winter months, often
with a calf, as they migrate,
click
the whale.
Encounter FM broadcasts full-time 24hrs a day from Feb 1 1998
and is run entirely by volunteers, there are never enough, so you are welcome
to join us and get involved - It's fun!!

I've
been producing and presenting The R & B Show
for five years now, Ive also done shifts on Breckie
and various other programmes. I also present Saturday night Megamix,
a mixed popular music program, with a fair smattering of humour (not mine).
I previously worked at 'Radio
2XX' in Canberra, our capital city, and 'Radio
5UV' in Adelaide SA.
Since joining the NET I have made some great friends, local and international,
and I now include in my show occasionally The
Black Cat Radio Show a bonza programme produced in Memphis, which you
can hear on the WEB weekly.
I am not a musician or a blues expert, but I know
what I enjoy and I research my programme well, my
radio voice has a cockney ring, distinctive, if not classic. I try to make
each programme special, unusual, unique and with a particular theme. I
have fond memories of the my programme 'In Memoriam to Ted Hawkins' and
I enjoyed doing 'Ladies Sing the Blues'. Recently I enjoyed an interview
with the guys from Turning Blue a Geelong,
Victoria band. They kindly did a promo for the station and the show.
I've been asked "What do you call rhythm
and blues?" Well, I see B's
as a traditional black style and a feeling in music.
Influenced by artists such as Robert Johnson and Leadbelly.
I
added the R to
the title of the show so we could include material from artists such as
early 'Stones', 'Fleetwood Mac', 'Cream', 'Wilson Pickett and even Jimmy
Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
During '98 We'll be featuring lots af top quality independently
produced new releases from Australia and around the world.
You can now hear my online
show, streaming to you instantly in Real Audio.
I am talking to several community radio
stations with a blues programme. To know more about them, click

The growth of blues in
Australia; the artists and bands; the exposure of the many recordings;
the promotion of tours and one night stands all owe much to the many and
varied Blues radio programs that grace the Australian air waves on both
public and community radio. The presenters through love and devotion, dedicate
their time and resources to what is often taken for granted, your local
blues program. Blues is very much alive and well and these radio programs
provide the vehicle upon which it travels. Please support these presenters,
send information interviews and above all your music.

Many thanks to the bands
from around the world who regularly send me their new release CDs.
I have, and will continue to featured all of them on the R&B Show and
my Blues
Bands web pages & now on-line in RA.
I am NOW arranging Australian distribution for
many of them.
