Port Charles: Other News
Port Charles had a respectable first week. The newcomer's numbers beat Sunset Beach and nipped at the heels of Another World, while winning its time slot in big markets such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Detroit (where I live ^G^). However, the new soap didn't break any records; PC's rating of 2.8/11 was only slightly better than the City's first week (nov. 13, 1995) -- 2.7/10 -- in that time slot, and equal to Sunset's premiere (Jan. 6, 1997) -- 2.8/11.
Favorable start for Port Charles
The two-hour prime-time June 1 premiere of the new ABC daytime soap, Port Charles, faced formidable competition from the last hour of the NBA finals' (NBC) 24.7/27, making it the No. 1 show of the week in the national Nielsen ratings. According to overnight figures, broken into half-hour segments, view interest increased during the final hour of the two-hour special. (The NBA finals ended at 10 p.m.) The overnight composit ratings for the June 2 episode of PC in its regular half-hour format, airing in the 12:30-1 p.m. EDT time slot, were 4.1/13. The City's national Nielsen figures for its first week -- November 13, 1995 -- in the same time slot were 2.7/10; The City's overnights were 29./12. Sunset Beach's figures its first week -- Juanuary 6, 1997 -- were 2.8/11; Sunset's overnights were 3.4/1.
Lazarus Woman: Lisa Ann Hadley (Julie) got her big break by playing ... well, by playing dead. She appeared as a corpse on Melrose Place, portraying Taylor's (Lisa Rinna) deceased sister. Though she only appeared on a videotape in the episode, it was enough to add life to her acting career. Happy now to be playing a character with a pulse, Hadley is feeling at home in daytime. "The cast is starting to bond," she grins. "Everyone is having a great time, and I think that shows in the dynamics of the ensemble." Despite this friendly atmosphere, Hadly admits that she still has to watch her back. "We've got a couple of practical jokers among the men," she laughs. "I refuse to name names out of fear of retaliation. But so far, so good."
