Here are the answers to some commonly
asked questions about the Gentle Birth Pool Kit

The unfilled weight is 47 pounds and the filled weight is dependent on the amount of water in the pool. If it is filled to the maximum capacity of 18 inches, there would be approximately 197 gallons of water in the pool. This would make the weight 1623 (47+197x 8).

Construction time is approximately 15 minutes for a person who has read the directions and has a good idea of what to do. This includes time to set up the frame, install the heater, pull the liner over the frame, attach the faucet adapter, place the disposable liner on and get ready to go.

It takes about 30 - 45 minutes to fill the pool when there is a constant supply of warm water. The fill time is dependent on water pressure. It can also be dependant on water heater capacity. A minimum requirement is at least a 40 gallon water heater for efficient filling. A garden hose (supplied by the couple renting the pool) is attached to the water source with a faucet adapter which is sent in the kit. If this adapter does not fit, engineering needs to provide a special adapter. Women can get into the pool before it is completely filled and allow the warm water to wash over them as it is pouring into the pool. We also have available a filtration unit for those who are sensitive to chlorine and other chemicals in the water. This unit filters hot water and is attached to a shower. It can be purchased for $125 or rented for $35 for one month.

The pool comes with a grounded (three prong plug) water bed type heater that is installed into the pool liner before it is fitted over the frame. The heater is thermostatically controlled and will come on if the water temperature drops below the set temperature. If the pool is set-up and filled too far in advance of a birth, there will be some unavoidable heat loss, especially if left uncovered. Each kit comes with a foam pool cover. The heater is UL approved; 2.5 amps; 115 volts; 300 watts

A Blissful moment after the birth

The water from the pool is drained via a heavy-duty submersible pump. The pump is always provided in our kits. It is a 1/6th horse power pump which drains all the water from the pool in about 30 minutes. Either the same garden hose that was used to fill the pool or a second one is attached to the pump. The pump is lowered into the water and then plugged in. We have found that placing the pump at an angle or on top of something with holes will prevent the pump from sucking up the vinyl fabric of the liner and extending the draining time.

Once the pump effectively drains all but a small puddle of water in the pool, the rest can be absorbed with a towel or two. We provide disposable liners which are custom made for our pools. Additional liners can be ordered at $15 each or in orders of 10 or more for $12 each.
